I just picked up and ARB front locker here in the UAE from the ARB dealer in Abu Dhabi for about $1150 which is cheaper than ARBs list price in OZ, even with a 10% GST the price should be cheaper than an exported one. In Dubai we have a shop selling all the Bushranger compressors and recovery gear ...

The price of an extreme is a bargin, if you brought a similar spec one in the UK it`d set back over 60K. As for uncomfortable, if you hav`nt driven one before, drive one for a while they feel different and cramped, but once you get used to it and the seats I find them bloody great, the seats are ...

Yep British army has 300TDI, and whats more you can still buy brand new ROW 300TDI defenders, A bloke on LRE just had one shipped down to the Falklands.

It has a TD5 chassis, with a TDI in it.

It probably all comes down to economics, as the extreme is a bargin for what it is compared to a troopie, but to sell it at that price which is 15-20K AUD cheaper than in the UK, not to mention deducting shipping cost, LR must be doing some heavy discounting, and with the way the OZ dollar has ...

Why did LR disconnect the centre diff??? Some boffin in the UK decided ETC was the way to go and that centre d/lock would never be needed, biggest mistake they ever made. Michael. Another rumor I heard, was it also had to do with some people not knowing what the little lever was actually for, and ...

Thanks all, that maeks a lot of sense, my 110 is an early defender, so it might have come with the old style axles then.

As for MDs, yes I`d love some but the budget does`nt allow yet, next time we head back to OZ I might indulge myself. :D

I was under the impression that the spiral slinger (ACME screw) helped feed the shaft/gear but could strave the rear bearing, perfect for stop start running but for longer runs the rear bearing suffers.

Cross drilled gear and a good synthetic oil, will certainly help.

Salisbury question

Ello all, I`ve got a query, I fitted a Detroit locker to my 110 yesterday and had a set of suposedly heavy duty GKN axles to go in as well, but the axles I pulled out had longer splines and were the same size, except for the raised portion, so I threw em back in again as they had no spline wear, I ...

I`m interested to see how you get on, as it`ll give me a better idea of what to expect, researching the internet is one thing, but actually doing it is another, the other thing that is hard to find is examples of returning residents, most are emigrating or just importing.

Hope it goes well for you.

Ali, as for rebuilding your 90 before you go it might end up costing you more in duties etc, I have been toying with doing a similar thing with our Camel, but have decided against it as I want the lowest valuation possible when it gets assesed, my understanding is you pay import duties on the value ...

G`day there.

G`day all, I thought it was about time I registered here and joined in, I`ve been lurking for quite a while but never got around to taking the plunge. I`ve been living over in the Uk on and off for the last 10 odd years, and collected a ex Camel Trophy 110, which has been on the 91 event in Tanzania ...
