Re: toyota diffs for my RRC

At least with the early ie 28 spline maxidrives, spares are still available. Hytuff had axles and the side gears are holden 1 tonne. The side gears in the later 24 spline centres I don't think are available any longer unless M R Auto has made new ones or someone else has started manufacturing them ...

Re: pics and info on comp rigs

One year My Brothers car's winch was used to wake board across a canal for his mates birthday party, then a tinnie was used to take the rope back , he put a heap of telecom rope on it ;-) and in the video look at the tree's you might need to tilt your head to realize how steep it is ;-) man, i've ...

Re: RRC $ dicsos, front diffs/brakes

The bolts holding the calipers to the diff are different sizes between the disco diff and the rrc diff - well they are 94 D1 vs 90 RRC.

Re: Defender LT230 ratio....

Hey Peter, I believe that all defenders had the 1.41 ratio box, however some owners change them to the disco ratio for highway driving. The 1.003 ratio is also from a LT230 but these were mated to the torqueflight automatic box fitted to some earlier rangies. If you're looking for a second hand unit ...

Re: Navman Qube - vehicle GPS tracking device in car I bough

The Qube by itself really isn't much use as it needs the end user software to be able to show where and what the vehicle has been doing and that is only available through Navman Wireless whose head office is based in Sydney, although there are dealers in all states, Oblis is one of them in Brisbane ...

Re: rangie engine swap

3.9efi or 4.4 P76 although some will say they are getting old and parts are hard to find. I would have thought an 88 should have been efi and not carby so it would seem the motor has already been changed/modified

Re: D1 with True Tracks pulling to left under power

I'd also check the rubbers in the trailing arms as they can have a rear steer effect on the car when accelerating/decelerating, its gets worse as they get older.

Re: maxi drive parts

apparently not, as its the side gears which break and as these are no longer available it makes the centre an expensive paperweight. The side gears for the earlier 28 spline centres are however still available as are the axles from Hi Tough

Re: fine spline VS coarse spline

both are weak ,24 spline is stronger, the shock mounts on all rovers are in the coils ,it probably has the twin shock turrents put on it with the bolt on bracket on the axle housing

Not quite correct, it is my understanding that classic rangies which were fitted with air suspension had the shocks ...

There are a few rebuilt 4.4's on ebay, alternatively what parts are you chasing, we have 2 sitting in the shed since we've just changed to a 3.9 with ZF from 4.4 with torqueflight. Its been a complete pain to swap but thats more to do with the bloke who was supposedly doing it. :bad-words:

i have a 1988 rangie, iv been driving it for 10yrs, now time to put it to rest,
with its 4.6L motor (no.8 cylinder no compression) but the rest of the car is ok,

Re: disco rear diff on RRC

Its interesting that you found that the brake calipers fit perfectly, because when we fitted 94 disco diffs into my 90 rangie we discovered the bolts holding them on aren't actually the correct size. The bolts/bolt holes through the disco calipers are slightly larger in diameter and hence the ...

Re: disco rear diff on RRC

Are you talking about slotting the complete disco housing etc in, if so then the bolts that hold the brake calipers on are a different size. Can't comment on the other things although I believe the ratios are the same - other will confirm this though.

I thought another reason was so that people could run their standard 24 spline axles if required, instead of the 28 spline axles.

One benefit of the 28 spline ones is that the side gears are still available
