G`day David
You`ll find on the right side of the 3.5 at the rear of the block in the valley a pipe for the crankcase vent system that the 3.9 system doesn`t use .
It just needs to be blocked or tapped/pulled out and the hole plugged or similar .
Some of the bolts in the fronts of the heads on ...

G`day Oil leaks ,
the difference in the two is that the 3.9 has a longer keyway and key on/in the crank nose .
Unlike the 4.0 and 4.6 the 3.9 crank nose is the same length as the 3.5 .
The 3.9 crank can be fitted to the 3.5 to fit the serpy cover or the keyway can be lengthened on the 3.5 crank ...

you can check the base surface of the lifters by putting a straight edge across , hold up to the light , the straight edge should touch in the middle and you should see light on both outside edges .

If it`s one of the centre 4 you may have a show , if the end ones there`s not much room , and it will depend what position/height the lifter beside is.
If your lucky it will still be sitting upright and just out of its hole .
If you can see it at all your in with a chance .

Rekon if i`m gunna do that it`d make sense to put the 4.6 stuff in it but the crank alone won`t do it .
If i come across some rods and pistons , i may contact you .
It`s a shed job so in no rush .

If you still have the rods and pistons it would be worth something ?
