Vitara Manual Gear Box Ratios

Are the gear box ratios the same for a 96 SV620 and the earlier model 1.6 litre Vitaras . I know the input shaft and bell housing is different but are they the only differences that people are aware of.

Re: Vitara Problem

Have you changed your spark plugs .
Even though you have new leads , check there resistance and post up your readings . When you remove your spark plugs , do they all look the same .
Also what condition is your air filter in .

Re: older vitara vs newer (grand?) vitara - which is tougher

So I get the impression that the older vitaras are tougher than the newer ones.. I have a 1.6efi 2 door vitara and i was looking at the newer v6 ones but they seem to break stuff easier like cv joints etc.. can anyone confirm this?l I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing it's the extra horsepower ...

Front or Rear locker in a Vitara

Hi Every one , I know this has been discussed a few times but not sure if specific to Vitaras. I was up at Land Cruiser Park on the weekend following a couple of Patrols and 200 series Land Cruisers around, and of course when your travelling with the likes of those you need something extra , so you ...

. I like your idea and think it is good for light recoveries where you want to just hook your strap on with out mucking around with bow shackles. But for a heavy snatch recovery I'd think your better to go to the trouble and remove your tow ball and attach your snatch strap using a 3.2 t shackle as ...

Cracked Block G16B Vitara motor

Hi I've heard there is a common fault caused during manufacturing of the G16B blocks, that has resulted in them cracking around and near the
welsh plugs .

Any truth to this and any suggested remedies please.

I firgue the last one last 200 000 kms so for $160 it's worth getting the top tank replaced. The other option $485 for a new one .
For an old run about $340 is better off in my pocket.

How many Km's is to much

Looking for an 80 series deisel and just wondering if over 300'000 kms is too risky to buy, if not then what sort of money would you expect to pay.

Everybody talks about the 2" lift but when going to the shops they do tell you it's only 30mm approx. They do also say that 2 " in the max you want to go for the CV'S sake.

I had a big w/end so that might not make sense I would agree with you on this   You are also right in saying the shock won't bottom out. by raising your shock mount to allow fitment of a longer shock would allow the shock not to bottom out But in doing that your limiting your downward ...

I have the 2 inch lift.
It's as simple as this : It doesn't matter what sort of lift you do , if the springs allow compression more than the shocks can give , you need to modify your bump stops.

If i raise the mounts then i've lost the advantage of the extra wheel travel. So no point doing that. Commodore shocks give an extra 8inch more than the ranchos, I don't think so . And if they do what's thier compressed measurements. Probably the same as the Rancho's if not worse. So no point doing ...

Extended shocks ( any realistic benifit )

I've got a 94 Vitara LWB with rancho shocks. Reason for getting those was mainly for the extended travel but also for their adjustability. Down side to this is the lose of compression. Old shocks 285 compressed 460 extended. New shocks 356 compressed 568 extended. Problem is now i need to put a 50mm ...

Firstly , it looks like you have removed the circlip off the spine. If so put it back on. Useing a pin punch or centre punch remove the lock nut ( that's the thing with holes in it ) by hitting it anticlockwise. I could be very tight or easy to remove. I had use a big ballpien hammer on mine and ...
