any bigger than 32's on the standard rim will rub, they touch on the rear of the wheel arch where the mudflap mounts bigger offset moves the wheel out more and makes it worse take a look at it on full lock and you will see what i mean. saying that its pretty easy to fit 285/75/16's on up to -5 ...

Did you adjust up the shoes so there was slight resistance when turning the wheels first before you pushed the pedal, if not the first few times you push the pedal its pushing the pistons out until shoes touch the drum.

Looking around on other forums, now that 55 columns are getting hard to find most people are using 7X or 60 series columns now and the collapse-able intermediate shaft for the 7x models and or modifying the factory column with an extra bearing at the bottom and having it splined.

If you run the IFS rear housing, which is wider than the SAF housing.
Im not 100% on how to widetrack the front, but its something to do with IFS hub spacers.
Aza has just done this to his new Lux, I know of a few other Lux guys that have done it too, I know Ashleybmx has done it.

we use HIAB brand ones on our work utes and canter, the one on the canter can lift a tonne or two and both can be can be quite handy. If funding is an issue you could make your own upside down L shape frame and use an ATV winch and pulleys?

Don't the monster rides cv's offer more movement before binding as well?
I have heard from a local ARB dealer they lifted their hilux 4" with no diff lowering and the cv binds and something to do with the cv getting pulled out of the diff.

Pin towards the centre of the spring at the top. As the spring moves the shackle moves towards the centre of the spring and the pin hits the chassis to stop it inverting.
