There is a slight adjustment on the bar that comes off the master cylinder and attaches to the pedal. You need to remove the pin that attaches it to the petal and unscrew to make it longer. Also check if the hole in the pedal where the pin goes though hasnt flogged out over time and become larger ...

2nd gear synchro by the sounds of it..

Not much you can do except check the oil for gold bits and or take it to a transmission place for their opinion.

If it is the synchro its a box out and apart job to repair.
