Thanks for the help guys. I used different belts this time (were dayco, now gates), the old belts didn't have ripples on the inside but the new ones do, the whine is a little quieter, i think because the belts are a little on the loose side. Ill take ur advice and get a stethescope on to it and see ...

Ever since i had the belts changed on my 4.5L 80 series about a year ago it has had a loud whine from the engine. Its there all the time from idle and the pitch gets higher as the revs increase. Fed up with it, i replaced the belts today, without the aircon belt it still whined but without the two ...

Thanks guys, I got it put on the diagnostics machine today and it didn't put out any codes. The mechanic seemed to think it was the stepper motor from the ECU which controls idle speed and apparently build up with carbon so he cleaned it up and now its idling fine. Hopefully it has fixed it for good ...

Hey guys I have a 4.5 80 series and every few weeks for about 4 months it will idle at around 400rpm instead of the usual 700 or so. When it is started it will rev up like usual then drop rapidly to 400 even when cold. It doesn't seem to lose any power, it just idles really low and rough and usually ...
