i bought a 96 GQ 2.8 TD after driving a 4.2D
its amazing how good the 2.8TD goes especially if u keep itin the turbo range
test drive one and see how u like it, for me i upgraded from a suzuki sierra

for those that know alarms, i have the mongoose m80 series
i have installed the alarm and triggers and all seems to work fine
the only thing i am yet to install is the immobiliser,
the immobilsier is a 3 phase so it has 3 sets of wires
each set is made up of FOUR wires ( two in each pair ...

yeh i thought that connecteing wires in behind the ignition barrel will be a little easy to find that why i want to wire it in behind the fuse block... might look a bit more conspicuous...
i have a 96 gq patrol 2.8lt deisel turbo...so ill prolly immobilise the fuel solinoid... ignition...and not ...

murcod, yeh i am a little out of my depth but i am having fun drowning heheh.
thanks for that info on the switch i didnt realise i only have to use 1 of the wires.
as for the immobilisation..i thought that would be easier the immobiliser wires each are paired (3 x 2pair of wires)

You may want to read my reply on Overlander re the central locking set up someone recommended.....
You need to hook up the door switch wire that gets shorted to earth with the door open. It should all be explained in the alarm installation instructions, along with not hooking up the alarm module ...

ok guys what is the best way to wire the trigger for the alarm, such as the doors, bonnet, etc ???? i have found my door switch wire, pink and black
and ground is black
is it just a matter of connecting the door + triger wire to the door switch + (pink and black) and the - to the ground ...

ok i have bought a central locking kit from brisbane car sound only need the1 actuator coz my patrol already has central locking but the driver door is just a micro switch that activiates the other doors.

yes ewault is black and decker but it is a trade quality tool and it will last you

Check that the ground wire connected to the CD player is actual ground and not dash illumination. This will seem like a ground with the headlamps turned off. If in doubt connect the ground wire for the CD to the body...
youi were spot on there ... the earth wire was the illumination it acted ...

ok after stuffing around all day, to no avail
i pulled out the cd player and the dash light worked....hmmmm
so i must have been pulling some current from somewere...
ill have to just send some wire from the battery just for the cd player i think.
also my spoties dont work now

I removed the tape plaer from the my GQ patrol and installed me cd player from my old car,
There was a switch in the dash that connected to a relay that didnt seem to do anything.. so i removed it, and now my dash or parkers dont light up..must be on the same circuit those two ?

yeh i think i remember reading somewhere that a guy used to put diesel thru his engine for about 5mins.. to clean it every now and then during an oil change.... anyone else do this ???

yeh sorry made a typo i meant 2.8lt
i was abit worries about getting a 2.8 becasue a few ppl said they were slugs, i drove a few 2.8's turbos and a few 4.2 n/a diesels and the 2.8 turbo had heaps more kick.
And since i wont be towing anything, maybe a smalle camping trailer.. so shouldnt really ...

hey all thanks for all the advice and answering my q's about which GQ to buy,
in the end i decided for a 96 30th aniversary 2.9 lt turbo desisel with 170,000 on the clock and in pretty good nik!!
i'll post some pics tomorrow when pick her up
all i need now is some advie for mods mwahahah ...

Afternoon all,
After a long a grueling decission making process I think I have narrowed me next 4wd purchase to a used GQ patrol i can spent up to 15,000.
There are two schools of thought,
1. buy a 4.2 diesel and if need turbo it
or
2. buy a 4.2 petrol.

but 30grand is alot of money to spend wish i could afford a big patrol tho,
