80 series dash light and alarm

I have an 1992 80 series with a 1HZ motor. Yesterday when I went around a corner a dash light came on as well as a high pitched alarm. Over the past 24 houyrs is has got worse, comming on more often and staying on longer. The dash light looks like an orange square with a droplet off the bottom - I'm ...

He bought the truck over today so we did a bit of tweeking. I backed off that screw on the pump - had to back it off almost a full turn till the idle dropped to 700rpm. Took it for a drive and the smoke is gone - not a whisper under load, backing off or at idle and not noticable difference in power ...

That throws a spanner in the works - I thought I could adjust the idle with that screw. I figured there would be less problems if I just kep the pump that came with the motor - after all it was running fine with that pump previously, although it did have a turbo at some stage - not sure of the ...

Ah - yes he did say they had a turbo fitted to it - that sounds like it might be the problem.
Now all I have to do is find out which screw to screw!
There was no exhaust manifold with it although I did get a carbie in the box of bits :)

yeah id try backing off the fuel screw abit sounds like its eating to much fuel. or it could be running on a bit of oil, like old mate said, make sure it isnt sucking oil from the crankcase, into the inlet, there should be a breather hose on top, disconect it. is it a 2.8 or a 2.4? It was sold to ...

That's what I'm not sure of - which is the idle screw on the pump?

Yes it is on the side - looks like some sort of vacuume advance so I',m guessing you're spot on.

also pull the crank vent off to test its not running on engine oil via the vent
Can you explain that a bit for me?
Thanks

I'm an 80's Cruiser nut so this Hilux / 4runner / surf stuff is new to me. It was sold to me as a 3L. The block looks identical to the 3L I pulled out. There were a few differences - the oil cooler cover was different - filter was in a different direction but basically the same. I swaped them over ...

Toyota 3L diesel problems

Just put a motor in my son's 4runner as temporary measure while re build his. His motor has done a crankshaft bearing - the motor I just dropped in was out of a wreck but was going OK. The problem I have is I can't get the idle below 1000rpm. I've backed the throttle stops off as far as I can but ...

2.8lt Diesel 4Runner / Hilux

I just bought a 1990 2.8lt 4Runner for my son. It sounds like someone with a big hammer is inside it trying to get out. It's ok because we knew that when we bought it. My question is – which way do I go now? If I shop around I can probably get a reasonable pulled out motor to put in it just to get i ...

What about a fat passenger... - Oh now I know why I see those stickers that say "no fat chicks" - it's a suspension issue. And here's me thinking they were being mean!

Suspension Bush Kit

Can someone recommend where to buy a front and rear poly bush kit for a 93 80 series?
I want to replace the bushes in the suspention arms and panhard rods.
I see them on Ebay - anyone bought these?
I'd prefer to pick up in Brisbane but can buy online.

Thanks

I just run O'br...
They said $200 to remove and refit at a later date.
Which I thought wasn't too bad considering that includes a new rubber.
They were pretty confident they could remove it without damage - it has no chips or cracks - looks pretty good if not recently replaced.

I'm painting the truck - changing the colour - so need to pull it out to do the job properly.
There is also sealant oozed out around the windscreen that need to be cleaned up properly.
Anyone have a windscreen replaced professionally recently that can tell me the costs?

Removing the front windscreen

Can somebody give me some tips on removing a front windscreen?
(80 series)
I'd like to try and get it out in one peice so I can paint the truck then either put it back or get a auto glass guy to refit it.

Cheers

I have an 80 and would like to do this as opposed to spending big bucks to get a trayback. Will be going to the panel beaters tomorrow to ask how much.
I'd be talking to someone that specialises in it - Creative Conversions or 2DExtreme

Workshop Manual

Which is the best workshop manual for a 93 / 80 series?
There's a few to choose from: Gregory's, Ellery, Hayes etc
I think there's even a genuine Toyota one.
Not just the motor - a workshop manual for the entire car.

I've had a few quotes on a cut - about $6000 to convert an 80 series to a ute or extra cab.
$4000 to convert it to a duel cab - a lot less work apparently.

Can't answer your motor question.

80 series wheel / tyre question

I'm installing a 50mm lift in my 80 series.
I'm pretty sure 33s will fit without any mods ect and without rubbing.
But will 35's fit with out rubbing?
I can't seem to find a yes/no answer.
