Re: 80 series diffs and suspension under a fj40

If the wheelbase was close, I would think about doing it, but im really not keen on cutting a chassis. Thanks anyway for the ideas :D

Re: 80 series diffs and suspension under a fj40

Forgot to mention that its a shorty 40. Surely the 80 series wheelbase would be too long.

80 series diffs and suspension under a fj40

After discussion in this thread: http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=220294" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; And a few months later, I decided to go with all 80 series gear under my fj40. This is mainly to hopefully get a better ride on the road, better flex...

Re: 40 series flex.

Just roughly how much would you say to coil a 40?

If i were going to replace the diffs and leafs anyway, would it be worth going to coils?

Thanks for all the info, I wont be ready to do the work for a while yet but it gives me an idea of what parts to start looking for.

Re: 40 series flex.

What lift is required to run 33's and how high for 35's, assuming i extend the wheelbase ~5in Also I will be going for a 350 chev at this stage with a 5 speed box and gear driven transfer. What should I do to the diffs to handle the extra power? If I were to go for a disc brake setup would it be eas...

Re: 40 series flex.

Thanks for all the pictures and info! I am thinking that I will stay with leafs as they give pretty good flex.

How have people increased their wheelbase, as my spring hanger is already at the back of the chassis rail?

40 series flex.

Would like to see the amount of flex that people are getting from various aftermarket leafs and different set ups (SOA, reversed shackles). Also, for those people who have done a coil conversion (three link & four link), what is it like on the road and how is the stability vs leafs? Just getting...

FJ40 fuel tank

Just wondering if anyone has seen this tank before and who makes it.

http://www.man-a-fre.com/parts_accessor ... r28gal.htm

On their website they say that it is Aussie made, so I would like to get a price from someone here.

Thanks for any help,

Sam

FJ40 or HIlux?

I’m having a hard time trying to decide if I want a FJ40 SWB or a 1984 - 1987 Hilux extra cab. Can anyone give their opinion/experience? Also is it possible to have a hard top on the FJ40 for winter/ trips to the snow and then change it for a soft top in summer? In the future I would be looking at: ...

Drag link hitting u bolts

I did a search, but could not find an exact answer on how to fix this. Hilux is 1985 with 2" cab and 2" suspension. We used axle relocation plates to move the front diff forward 1" to let the 33's clear the guards. When we installed the relocation plates, they added a few mm's under t...

Flog the crap out of the inner guard with a FBH where the raised bit is. Mine clears wth only 2 inch body and sagged springs, front are flat/almost inverted on 33's. Still rub a little bit but not enough to worry about. We can dent in the guard but i still dont think it will be enough. How far woul...

33's hitting on 84 Hilux

Lots of questions. Dad's 1984 hilux has 33's with 2" body lift and 2" suspension lift. We picked it up with the bobcat and only got to 300mm above the ground at full lock before it hit the inner guard. I posted a few months ago (didn't have pictures) and was told that we should move the di...

It would almost be cheaper to hunt down a 3rz that is not ridiculously over priced and jam it in there, even if you bought a rebuild kit and reco'd the 22r. hunt down a 3rz 2wd bellhousing, other than that its just time if your handy around the engine bay. Can easily be done and has been done in a ...

Moving the diff foward will clear the sump, mines moved foward close to 6 inchs and is fine We only have enough space to move it forward a few inches or it will hit on the front of the wheel arch. Was thinking about using the snake racing 1" relocation plates. We want to try and solve the prob...

That is an option, but they hit really bad, so we would need to do a lot of panel beating to get clearance.

33's rubbing.

Dads 85 hilux has 33's with 2" spring lift and 2" cab lift. The 33's hit on the inner guard at full lock about 3" before it hits the bump stop. We are thinking of either going to an 80mm spring lift shown here: http://www.efs4wd.com.au/toyota.html or relocating the diff foward 1"...

Would somebody be able to post a list of the parts we will need? Mainly the year, 2WD or 4WD and manual or auto for the motor, bell housing, and sump. Do we need a surge tank if we choose to change the pump in the fuel tank and what pump would work?

It is an extra cab. I don't think the tank location is different from a single cab.

What year 4runner should the tank be from? How many litres is it?

Also what year should the motor and bell housing be from? hilux or parado?

Hilux 3Y upgrade

Dad has a 85 hilux YN65 with a 3Y. It has 33's, 2" cab and spring lift and a bull bar. The 3Y has had it so we are looking at upgrading to something with more power :D. He doesn't want a V6 or V8 so we are looking at a 2.7 3RZ as it is a common conversion. How much of a performance increase wil...
