Re: TD42 custom intake

Thats what i thought too. Not going nuts, just an increase in flow and a change of inlet direction to suit front mount instal.

Re: HOT TD42

TD 42 run a bypass thermostat system. So when the thermostat opens it blocks off a bypass port in the thermostat housing. I have seen this area corrode out resulting in coolant not being forced thru radiator. 4.2 efi viscous hub and fan are a better design and larger viscous than TD42 and will bolt ...

Re: td4.2 missing about 2700

Will be either the filter screen in the pump or low transfer pressure inside the pump throwing the timing out.

Sounds like the spring from the governor shaft inside the pump has fallen off. If so, thats not good as there is a tiny spring and pin thing that is probably sitting in the bottom of the pump about now! Take the cover back off and have a look.

5th Gear was only an issue in the 3.0L patrol. I would suggest that the issue is the springs in your clutch plate. When they go they sound like the input bearing has failed.

You get the 1HD-T 12mm head and delivery valves and have it bolted to your TD42 pump. Good for engines running high boost(20psi+).

Just thought i would piont out that there is no such thing as an indestructable shocker. They fit Fox shocks to some of the high end camper trailers and when i lived in the Kimberly i have seen them fail along with every other brand out there from bilsteins through to konis and OME's.

4jx1 engine fault

Gday, got a 4jx1 at work that runs sweet at idle, sweet top end but just off idle (around 1000rpm) it runs rough. Have replaced the rail oil pressure sensor and the injector loom as it was leaking oil. Rail pressure is right but the injector pulse width is all over the place at idle but sits smooth ...

That price is a bit rich. Should be around $2700 for the pump. Are you sure that price wasnt with the pump being fitted? They are a labour intensive pump to fit.

O-ringing the block and using a copper head gasket is a good way of solving that problem. Fitting the steel o-rings is time consuming though. If i was you i would be looking for another reason as to why it blew out after only 1000k. Thats not a long time even with high boost pressure.

Check the sump for damage/bending at the front if its TD42 as there is sweet FA clearance between the crank and the sump up there. If it is touching you will get the symptoms you discribed. Just get a rubber mallet and hit the side of the sump on the angle parts to pop it back out again. Or take it ...

If you take that bolt with the blade screwdriver slot in it out you will find oil will drain out. Let all the oil drain out of this cavity as this cavity is where the diaphragm operates the fuel control rack. excessive oil in this area will create fuel control issues. Also on the rear of the pump at ...

Chase up the 4.2l efi ti front rotors and calipers. They are twin piston and thicker rotors. They should bolt straight in. Braided flexible lines can improve pedal feel and stopping performance.

They are both thirsty engines. I would personally go for the turbo diesel 1KZ-TE option. About the same power (bit less than the V6) but heaps better fuel economy.

You have to pull the tranfer apart to get at it. If the spline is buggered then you have to replace the gear with a MOD32 gear from don kyatts and put it all back together. Then the transfer case may be worn and need parts. If your not confident then i wouldnt recomend trying it yourself.

O-ringing the block is an engine out and full strip down job as it requires the block to be decked and then small grooves machined into the block around each bore. Then lengths of like piano wire cut and filed to fit into the groves. Annealed copper head gasket is used. 1FZ-FE uses a steel head ...

Dump the oil into a clean container ( one for g/box and another for transfer) to check for steel etc. Drop the pto cover off and have a feel of the gear on the mainshaft closest to the g/box for slack in the spline.Very common on that modle box, especially an early one like yours.

Be prepared to shell out for g/box and diff rebuilds on a vehicle that old. Main issue is mainshaft/ transfer input gear spline stripping. If you jack the back wheels up off the ground sometimes if you rotate the tailshaft back and forth you can feel the gear slopping around on the spline. Or take ...
