1993 Vitara front bumper removal

I have partly ripped out the plastic part of the front bumper of my 1993 Vitara (don't ask ). I have a DVD manual that makes no mention of the bumper, but a good look at the damage makes me hope that there is a one-piece metal part that is full width and that the plastic part was, and still is ...

The story so far: I am delighted with the new Toyos. At 23 pounds they feel secure at 80 to 90 on the bitumen and at 60 on the corrugations. Most gratifying is the grip they give in the scrub. The little Zook is a remarkable vehicle. It revels in terrain that I never thought I would attempt to ...

Got my Toyo tyres this afternoon. They are pumped up to 35 pounds and feel solid on the bitumen and rattly on the corrugations, but don't feel as if they are about to skid sideways in a series of little hops as the old tyres did when over-inflated. Tomorrow into the bush with a pressure of about 23 ...

I have learned a little about tyres and it wasn't easy. Dogged Googling has uncovered for me the secret of the numbers on the side of the tyre, and it is evident that both the local tyre fitters didn't know it. One said it was too difficult to explain and the other just waffled. One of them offered ...

I emailed Toyo yesterday and today I got a really useful reply. There is not much advantage in getting wider tyres for my little Zook for the terrain I inhabit. Indeed, anything wider than 215 are outside the guidelines for most states because their increased diameter makes speedometer readings ...

Vitara tyres

I have an unmodified 1993 Vitara. It spends most of its time in the bush: Some bitumen to and from the bush but more than half its time on fire trails and corrugated dirt tracks. I am looking at new tyres because the existing tyres (215 75 15) are just about shot. The local tyre places give me ...

That's my understanding, too. I have seen diagrams of how it works, but they are notional representations, not technical diagrams. There must be some kind of valve in that screw-in device, but I can't imagine how it is manufactured.

Spark plug tyre inflators: how do they work?

I have seen diagrams showing how the Schrader spark-plug tyre inflators work without filling your tyre with a perfectly explosive mixture of fuel and air, and I can't understand how they work. Does anyone? Can someone point me to a website somewhere?

Vitara thermostat

1993 Vitara. I have a picture of the thermostat that seems to imply that the thermostat is integral to its cast housing. Any other car in which I replaced the thermostat had a sort of generic thermostat insert. You unbolted the housing, lifted it up without removing it from its hose, lifted out the ...

Workshop Manual for Vitara

I bought a CD which purported to have on it a workshop manual for my 1993 Vitara. It is from Chilton Total Car Care and has a manual for the Sidekick. I believed that the Sidekick was the North American version of the Vitara, and that the manual would be the same as a manual specifically for the ...

And now I know how it became bent in the first place. Sometimes when I slide into the driver's seat, I find I am sitting on the seatbelt, which doesn't retract fully. To lift my fat bum off the seat, I put my left hand betwen the seats, and lift. Sometimes my hand falls onto the little gear stick ...

Fuel usage for a 1993 1.6 litre carburettor Vitara automatic

I'm using something like 13 litres per 100K in my newly-bought 1993 Vitara JLX 1.6 litre carby automatic.
Mild bush-bashing and a bit of bitumen.
Seems a bit thirsty. Is this about what I should expect?

The silicone spray made a huge difference to the windows.
As for the gearstick, a surprisingly mild amount of brute force straightened it up in seconds.

Vitara 4WD gearstick is bent sideways.

Just curious. After some very helpful comments from regulars on these forums, we bought a 1993 Vitara JLX. It is a mixed bag: the electric windows shudder a bit and the left-hand window is very slow to close; the tyres are close to replacement time; but it goes well and is surprisingly agile in the ...

A tube bullbar from ECB is almost half what I paid for the car. The more impressive-looking ARB bar is about $200 less, at $1300, fitted, at a place in Bega. They gave me a thick, glossy ARB catalogue which must have cost a bomb to produce. After shelling out for rego, transfer fees, a couple of ...

Bullbars. Are they worth the money and effort?

Something of a wordy preamble: Recently I hit a kangaroo at fairly low speed in a Corolla, and the damage to both was considerable. Thirty years ago I hit a kangaroo at high speed in an Alfa Spider. (Don't ask) Neither of these cars had a subframe and I imagine that the damage to either would have ...

We will buy the 1993 auto Vitara. 1600 carby model. It has electric windows  Its tyres are good, brakes are good, no readily visible rust, one cracked tail light, oil (transmission fluid?) leak onto the exhaust, which could be because it hasn't been run for three months. No oil on its garage ...

Two replies so far. One is a 1993 automatic Vitara, just around the corner from where I live. I'm not keen on an auto, simply because I know nothing about them. I can't envisage how the low gear range would work.
The other is a 1991 manual Vitara, about two hours away.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) I will have an ad in all the local papers down the South Coast from Batemans Bay to Bega. "Wanted. Suzuki Sierra or Vitara. 02 44 738 583."
I have no idea what will turn up or how much the asking prices will be.
It will be interesting.

Thank you all for your responses. It does seem that we could happily use either. We drive for about 8K on bitumen and then for not more than 4K at a time in the bush. Whatever we get will soon be scratched so the state of the bodywork is not an issue. We have a Toyota for highway trips so the Suzuki ...

Very basic question about Suzuki

How can I find out what is the difference between a Sierra and a Vitara? I have Googled and I have looked at the entries in Wikipedia and I am still unsure. I am after a 4WD to travel firetrails and the occasional wombat track in my efforts to photograph and record the songs of lyrebirds. Ground ...
