I'm quite happy driving up Falls Creek, Mt buller & baw baw roads in the patrol (35" simexs) without chains, but wouldn't head up Hotham without them, there are some pretty steep hills & even 4wd won't help ya from sliding of the massive drop if the ice got real bad

If you really want to stick with the Mq, get yourself a 5speed turbo diesel box & the 4.6 diff gears out of the petrol L29 patrol.
Is the easiest way to get low gearing using stock parts
As for gq diffs under the mq, Can you do the fabrication work yourself? If so then go for it, if not sell it ...

IN my shorty time of having the GQ (1 year now) i've gone from drop boxes which were too big to now having castor bushes, & now will be going back to drop boxes or maybe drop arms, the way the car handled with drop boxes was awesome

Its your motor!
I must say i did test drive a naturally aspirated diesel Gq when i was looking at them & it went quite well
But if all else fails, sell the Mq & put the money towards a turbo kit for the gq

Sounds like you might be better off with a mechanical support which is adjustable in height vs the rams which will be costly.
Maybe speak to a caravan manufacturer & see what they have to offer

Yeah I thought that was the case.......
At the end of the day the amount of clearance under the guards is huge if you are prepare to fire up the 4in grinder...
The bigger the tyre with the least amount of lift = stable car.
I had 1in springs and 2in body and ran a 35in tyre without taking the ...

From memory you could run a 33in tyre on an MK with stock suspension.......
You can actually run 36" (Q78's) Swampers on an MK with 2" body & guard cut ;)

Your right. The competitors need to make a stand. but at the time they're all too focused on racing . Safety should be paramount and some striped bunting just doesn't cut it. Agree 100% and yes I am guilty of this myself  Makes you SOOOOOOOOO tunnel visioned.
