Re: GQ frontbar measurement

Bottom of chassis to they very bottom of the grill is 140mm to the point where the grill sticks out is 210mm (this is where the edge of my TJM bar sits) I don't have a body lift.

Re: Repalcing rusty rear windows. 1990 wagon

Easy as to replace, get a big flat screw driver pop in each corner and leaver working your way around the window till it pops out. To reinstall just line it up gently push it in on the rubbers with your hand, working your way around again applying more force as it gets further in. As for where to bu...

Re: Has anyone retrofitted aircon for one make to another?

Well the latest plan now involves buying a written of AU falcon as he wants to do a full speedo and steering coloumn and possibly even a dash conversion. So we're going to have a shot at using the aircon system out of that, and if that doesn't have enough balls we'll look at other options for trying...

Re: Has anyone retrofitted aircon for one make to another?

The old man lives in northern NSW so it can't be an evaporative setup. How big are the roof top refigeration setups? Don't they normally have a big fan setup that stays inside van? I'm not sure on my chances of getting him to agree on something that will stick up out of the roof unless we can make i...

Has anyone retrofitted aircon for one make to another?

I'm in the process of helping my old man build a F100 wagon. Its an ex ambo with a pop top (77 model) and we're trying to work out the best course of action for getting a decent aircon system in it. He wants to try and get the whole back area cooler because he uses it to move dogs (he's a dog breede...

Re: What to look for in a 91 patrol

For $900 go for it, I just sold a '90 RB30 patrol that was full of rust had 430k on the clock and not one single redeeming feature for $800 and had people fighting over it. (its now appeared back for sale for $3000  ) If you have the ability and the inclination to do the work it sounds like a...

Re: auto advice needed for 2 gq's

Isn't there a different bolt pattern between the diesel and petrol engines and as such you can't use tb42 auto on a td42. I could be wrong I only looked into it cause I'm trying to sell a TB42 auto.

As another note on the speedo thing, if you are out you can always 'adjust' it by hand if its close. My last car (not a 4wd) was 6% out, so I took the plastic off the front of the speedo got to 100km/h (gps confirmed) and gave the needle a gentle twist so it said the correct speed. At 50km/h I was a...

Assuming its the carby model, its pretty much standard operation. Everyone I've ever been in has had the miss, you can just ignore it or if you really want it gone this is the list of things to replace. Plug Leads Dizzy Cap Exteneded rotor button (exchange with your standard or extend it yourself) E...

I'm running full electric thermos on my car so I haven't actually played with that fan at all but I can give you the basics for how to hook it up. Firstly get your self a test light (should be about $5 from super cheap) and you need to check if it is switched on the positive or earth side. To do thi...

I had a shift kit fitted when I had my TB42 auto rebuilt. I know what you mean by not great on road but gets the job done. Off road the shift kit is really good, much better than before. Autos are so much nicer off road. People who knock it haven't tried it I'm sure. I'm not sure how many of the pr...

The Autos are computer controlled and need a few different sensors. They definitely have TPS in the carby, so you'll need to swap that over, and retro fit one onto your carby. There's also a kick down switch and obviously the new pedal box. Do some research I'm sure someone has written up a how to o...

Then you might as well rule out all the petrol combination, because if you drive hard enough to get 35L/100km in a TB42 you won't do much better in an LS1 or chev. So to make them remotely cost effective you'll have to put it on gas which ruins your touring capabilities. If you want to tour go for ...

Go for ultrasonic detectors instead of microwave. They do the same job but are much harder to set off from outside the car. I've had microwave sensor go off in the rain alot. But that could be incorrect installation as well. I had a rhino alarm in my last car and it wasn't that great, main complaint...

I'd be interested to know what standard running temp is too. Also the stock gauge is CRAP! My patrol has started boiling at 1/4 on the gauge and at 3/4. Don't trust that gauge.

If your looking at autos take it on the highway at 100 or prefereably 110 and see if the torque converter will lock up, and disengage properly. The autos are great when they work, but the manuals are bullet proof, this was the first auto I ever drove in the bush and couldn't believe how easy it was....

A very large percentage of the petrol GQs will be on gas, so that will help the fuel bill considerably. At the 6-7k mark you might just get a stock GQII. Biggest killer in your price range is rust, 95% of them will have it in the rear windows. I can't comment on any of the other trucks, I was set on...
