The reason the difflock axle won't come out through the spindle is that the spline that the difflock dog rides on is larger in diameter than the hole in the spindle, so you must unbolt the spindle. once you have it all apart take accurate measurements from the diff retaining studs on the banjo ...

Drew, I am assuming the wheelbase will be something like 110'' +37''. so wouldn't you be better off starting with a 110 chassis so that only the chassis section behind the rear spring towers wil need to be altered. It would be pointless to shorten a chassis that has just been extended.

Yea, I knew about the AG Rover, Front portals bolted on before the swivel housings,6'' drop, no hub reduction, chain drive etc. I don't think it was an approved LandRover conversion. The ones that were refered to on the difflock.com forum didn't sound like those.

Watts Links on racing cars use Heim joints and give very precise lateral control. Retreads on trailers seem to be more common than new tyres, but they are probably not a good idea on 4 bys because if you air down for offroad work the tread will loosen on the tyre carcass fairly quickly possibly leading to tyre failure either in the bush or at higher speeds on the road.

You would have to get new shafts made with splines both ends, which would be very expensive and possibly not as strong as the stock Toyota units. AISIN hubs are probably stronger than any aftermarket free wheelers, but I don,t know that they would be up to severe use in the rear.
