Re: 80 transfer front output seal with 2in body lift?
Just did this on mine with Navi's father on Saturday. I only have a once inch body lift. Easy to do, just watch out for the detent ball and spring as you pull the front housing off . We left the entire cross member, etc in place. The hardest part as perviously identified was pressing out the gears ...

Re: Td5 towing reliability
I have towed a cruiser on a trailer with our 2003 Disco TD5. Towed it brilliantly and with some of the best fuel consumption I have seen out of it. I towed it from Brisbane to Rocky and it was magic. We have had the computer remapped, but fairly standard arfter that. Our has some 230,000 and we have ...

Re: in the market for a new tow car...need advise
I am sorry but if you want to tow 3t reguarily, I would be getting something that approaches the same weight to tow with, just safer all round, 3t pushing around on the back of something weighing 2t is just looking for trouble no matter what tyres, brakes or motor it has... The smaller the motor the ...

Always double shield any pipes that run inside the cabin, regardless of the type of pipe used. Have seen one pipe burst and spray navigator with boiling water, not a good end result.

Re: Differences between 94 1HZ & 91 HDT running gear
Just an update incase anyone else was looking at the same thing... I just dropped into Direct Clutch Services in Brisbane (Albion) to get a new clutch, friction plate and bearings just to replace the standard items in the 1HDT motor and gear box. While there I posed the question to them about mating ...

Re: Getting 33's engineered in QLD.
Last time I looked into getting bigger tyres complianced, you had to be with 15mm over diameter of the largest placarded tyre size. If you can get Toyota to agree you could do it, but I do not think that is going to happen. Otherwise you go down the line of small vehicle manufacturer, but I hear ...

Re: Anyone driven a RAV4 across a river before?
I agree with other I would drive it, but we are not there to assess the situation. My only suggestion is that with the increase electrics this can be a problem. Look in the owners manual it may give you a Manufactures recommended maximum fording depth. Anything less that that should be no problems ...

One thing I noted that with the child harness you purchase seperately they appear to be a PIA (pain in a@#$) buckle the child into the seat. I just bought the a Hipod Senator that comes with an inbuilt harness that is easy to do up around the kid, provides head and side support and can be laid back ...

Re: what suspention does everythink best for an 80
I would just put some good tyres on it (not overkill in size), a couple of inches of lift and decent coils and shocks that suit your kitted out vehicle (if daily driver go softer coils with Poly airs, otherwise HD springs that handle your laden weight) Then learn how to drive the vehicle. I can take ...

Re: Differences between 94 1HZ & 91 HDT running gear
I like to use the car for slow technical stuff so the lower gearing sounds good to me. Checked out marks and lower gears for transfer case $1300 for a set of gears. The Isuzu truck frictionplate sounds like the easy way out but I want to keep both vehicles running, so might just swap the transfer ...

Wow, that was quick and very detailed, exactly what I was after. Thanks I like the idea of lower 1st and 2nd gears, but would like to keep the clutch out of the HDT. Can you swap the input shafts between boxes so I keep the low gearing and the bigger clutch? Or would recomend just getting lower ...

Re: removing troopy front diff centre
Mick, The front centre is the worst in terms of amount of work required. You basically have to strip FW Hubs, calipers (just tie up out of road instead of disconnecting), wheel hub and brake rotor, stub axle (what the wheel bearings sit on) and then you can pull the axles out a few inches. Then you ...
