Correct the 4.8 did have the diff mounted handbrake.
Although, the brakes are some what bigger on the 4.8's diff tho, if you do fit a complete diff ( wheel to wheel ) the car will handle like crap unless the front diff width is the same as the rear.

White smoke ( unburn't fuel)
Blue smoke ( burning oil)

Id probably be thinking blown oil seal in turbo,
But causing it to "jump" from side to side could have something to do with fuel.

I am not too familiar on these engines but id check the turbo out first.

Hope all goes well :D

Maybe some one could clarify if they do fit!

They tend to get hung up a lot on the rear shocker mounts.
check out supeior engineering's web site, you can buy the brackets from them, they lift it inline with the diff housing instead of hanging down........................... could be the diff between making and not!

Hey all, I am curious!, Lets just say that (mr X) has a leaf sprung 4x4, and he has a rather big crack in that leaf sprung chassis. But (Mr X) comes accross another chassis with coil springs instead! Do you think that (Mr X) could fit this, then use the leaf sprung chassis number to get the vehicle ...

Cheers for the pics!

Actually looks ok, stops dents and rust and damage.
Strength wise?? i suspose the floor will become a weak spot??? or has some one done this mod and its held up to the test of time!

Just concerned that a good wack on the sliders will cause a creased floorpan!
