I wouldn't like to be competing with the likes of Kym Bolten in anything he does. He has done lots of expedition driving around the world so would be set up really well.

Duel Battery system not separating batteries.
I have a GQ TD 42 Patrol running a piranha Duel battery system. Its been in since about June 2011. Deep cycle 2nd at the same time, new main about feb last year. I run a 50ltr fridge in the back of the ute and have run a 40ltr at the same time for 6week trips. The pissy Patrol alt. has coped with ...

Re: Baby seat in patrol single cab
I've just been through this over the last 5 years. I had a GQ ute and sold it thinking I needed a duel cab for the young bloke but really could have gotten away with the ute. Other than the first bit where a baby capsule is probably the only time they can't really be set up in the front (impractical ...

Yep. Thanks.
Car starts easy for a diesel but battery didnt have enough to turn over fast enough to start.
So no drama to the duel battery system?

Jump starting off aux battery
I've been told its bad to jump start off my deep cycle battery. Its a deep cycle connected to the other main with a piranha system.
I have flattened my main battery and just put the jumper leads straight across. Done it twice.
True/false?

Unless its blowing lots if smoke or down on compression, why rebuild.
Sounds like it will not be running huge boost untill you have everything in place anyway, do it if/when your ready to really up the ante..

Ive never heard that they have to next to the window. As long as there are anchor points the middle would be ok?
My young bloke goes in the middle of my GQ in a seat and we have never been questioned.

Re: Rego before or after on chassis swap??
So Blackmav, You had no dramas changing to a ute? Was anything said about the steel tray mounts, you would have had to weld on for the tray? I've got to change bodys on mine and thought ute mite be the way to go!! I didnt modify the chassie mounts, I used the rear body mounts either side of the ...

Re: Rego before or after on chassis swap??
You do not need an engineers for a straight body swap if it bolts on. You need to get a change of details form from rta or blue slip guy. It will need to be inspected by a blue slip guy to see that it has everything that its supposed to, mudflaps etc. I needed a weighbridge ticket as I went from a ...

Re: Exo roll cages in NSW
If you think something like getting an exo approved is hard, try getting any workcover licences (forklift, ewp, dogman, rigger, crane, hiab etc) ANYTHING next year. New assesments will mean longer, more expensive courses (at least twice) and will be alot more rigorous testing. eg. having to know ...

Decent breaker bar and pipe then drive... I've done that before and worked a treat but I recently had to do it and it was a no go. Snapped two bars and bent one. I took it to a mates mech shop and he went through three sizes of rattle guns and still no good. We then got a length of rhs and drilled ...

My understanding (insert disclaimer ><) , Turbo or not , you still putting fuel in and it will get hotter egts. Especially up your way, long pulls produce hotter egts. Half a turn on mine ,after i put an Intercooler on produced substancially quicker rates of egt rise. While it flew it was rising way ...

Gu pulling to left after hub rebuild.
We did a swivel hub rebuild on my mates 2000 Gu wagon, bearings ,seals, king pin bearings, everything. Now its pulling to the left, just enough to have to hold onto it all the time. Theres no excessive heat in the hubs after driving and the wheels turn fine. Brakes dont pull to one side. Tyre ...
