driing lights
Good luck running 400 watts plus your existing lights from a standard alternator! If you're going to run active wire inside body to roof fit an inline fuse at BOTH ends of wire. In the event of a rollover, at least one fuse will blow and prevent a fire. Cheers.

which clutch?
Hi all,
Am about to fit a warm ( Weber DGV, mild cam, headers) 1600 8V to my '87 NT Sierra. Which clutch should I use? Understand a 1.3 flywheel is required but should I only look at Vitara clutches or are 1.3 heavy duty units OK? Part no's would be really helpful! Cheers.

Fusible link capacity needs to be doubled to accommodate new increased charge capacity i.e. 50 amps instead of 25 amps. Have done this conversion myself.

Locking wheel nuts
Does anyone out there know of a brand of locking wheel nut that WORKS without being able to be diaabled and thus allowing the wheels to be ripped off? It seems that most can be damaged enough to get them off!

A recent trip to NZ seemed to indicate that Firestone Super All Tractions (SAT) are still available. They came originally in 6.50x16, 7.00x16 and 7.50x 16 and possibly 7.00x15. I have to say that they were one of the best extreme tyres of all time, and a "cheesecutter" to boot. They used to be the ...

Well there ya go! You build a very capable rig that works beautifully on all our hardest tracks, doesn't break, doesn't fall over, steers good, doesn't "flop" in the spring department and outperforms many coily trucks only to be told it's only good as a pose machine by another forum user. Oh well, I ...

Calmini kit
The calmini 5" kit sux! It has no flex and I remain singularly unconvinced about the value of the shackle reversal. Their version of shackle reversal just offers further obstruction at the front of your truck. SPOA is overrated, IMHO. I ramp 800+ on a 23 degree ramp with SPUA. Keep your centre of ...

Who needs power steering?
I have been recently getting the bits together to put power steering in my NT. I run Mongrels, Lock Rights front and rear and a 5.12 transfer and it had ceased to be funny. My Mongrels were well down at the front and I was sick of waiting for more to arrive in Tassie. So I bit the bullet and bought ...

3/4 elliptic
I've posted this before but here goes....Weld a 50x6 mm. bedplate between the bumpstop plate and the original fixed shackle bush ring. Get your buggyleafs made from 5mm stock. Secure with Grade 8 bolts AND nuts. Shackle angle at rest is crucial. If not right it will invert. No need to move fuel ...

save Southport Rally
There is to be a Save Southport Rally soon in Hobart. We are expecting hundreds of trucks from all over the State to participate. A committee is organising it in conjunction with 4WD Tasmania. There is to be a new Minister for Parks shortly and we will be able to make a serious show of strength ...

I should prolly qualify that statement. We were not saying anyone was cheating last time--just that we will tighten the rules up a little to make it fairer for all.

future ramp days
In future we ( No Limits) will ensure trucks are roadworthy (no disconnected shockies, bolts etc) and have road pressures in the tyres. Makes it more even--what's the point of winning if you have to cheat?

I used to run Series 1s with 31s and always felt that they were only JUST low enough. In Tassie we obviously get a lot of goopy mud and 2nd. was the go with Series 1s for most holes, but, when you needed a bit more reduction--1st. was all revs. and no go! I now run Calmini 5.14s with 32s and have to ...

Hook
Bolt it sideways to the outside of the chassis rail. Use grade 8 bolts and fit heavy tube between the rails (around the bolts) to prevent the rail from collapsing as you tension the bolts. get a hook with a spring retainer on it that prevents the cable/rope from slipping off. Ideally fit a hook on ...

Shock hoops
I recently used Snake front shock hoops on my '87 NT. They are advertised as suiting Suzukis but appear to be universal i.e. fits nothing! We had to cut the angled base sections off and when welded to the chassis rails had to be angle braced to the top of the rails. This enabled me to utilise Rancho ...

Yes, it was the best I could find.108 amps, electronic internal regulator, easy fit to the Zuki, typically 95-100 bucks and only needed to change the drive pulley from a multigroove to a v-belt configuration and a switch from a 25amp fusible link to a 50 ampere unit. Runs 600 watts of light O.K. and ...
