Re: Disco not starting when hot??
Had the same problem when I had my disco. Research I did pointed to dirty earths on the starter solenoid and motor, when the car gets hot the resistance gets higher and there's not enough voltage to engage the solenoid. A cheap fix is to clean all the contacts on the stater and solenoid and the ...

Re: Discovery Lift kit/Suspension
To get those tyres in and usable off road (ie not being cut up while flexing) then you will also need to cut the guards as well as the lift. I have 265/75's on 0mm offset rims on my 97 disco with cut guards and I still get a bit of rubbing, although mainly on the mud guard bracket so would be easy ...

Re: Recommend a transmission for BBC in a truck
What about the Allison 5 speeds behind the likes of the duramax etc??
Alternatively, there's been a popular conversion for the isuzu powered landies recently that makes use of an NPR 5 speed transmission. Perhaps the trucks may have something suitable at a decent price.

just wondering has anyone fitted a 3.9 or 4.0 litre falcon motor into rangie and wondering about bellhousing compatibility on the borg warner auto's I think the consensus is its too long, otherwise its a nice motor with plenty of torque and now the turbo versions is available quite cheaply. When I ...

Re: Commonly available high current alternators (100A+, V-Be
You may not believe this but my method that has never failed to get a pulley off* is - hold the pulley in my hand and use the rattle gun on the nut. I've never needed the allen key because of the way rattle guns work. Hmm. Think I may have to go buy a rattle gun now. At least I can use that for ...

Re: Commonly available high current alternators (100A+, V-Be
Hmmm... I have swapped a few alternator pulleys and I've never used a special tool or (as far as I know) damaged a pulley. It's usually easy as long as you have a rattle gun for the nut. Incidentally for at least some vintages the commo/falcon bosch vee-belt ones have a two-piece pulley, each side ...

100 series cruiser is a dual v belt pulley which should run off a single belt. not sure why toyota put 2 on it. Have just checked these out on ebay. Diesel 110A models are sub $300 new (non-genuine) which doesn't seem too bad. Will chase up the specs on them to see if there would be any issues ...

Re: Commonly available high current alternators (100A+, V-Be
How hard is it to swap the pulleys, will any just slide on? From what I've seen most are a simple swap over with the right number of washers/shims to space the pulley correctly. The only issue with this is you need a specialised tool to remove most pulleys, or you risk damaging the pulley. So it ...

Commonly available high current alternators (100A+, V-Belt)?
I'm restoring my old land rover 101 and from the factory they came with a piddly little 34A alternator. Since the bracketry wont let me fit anything other than standard I am going to fab up a custom mount for a new type of alternator. Ideally I'd like a 100A+ alternator as eventually I will be ...

Again, a $10 digital multi meter and a bit of battery knowledge is a far better way to keep track of your batteries. This. My voltmeter tells me if my alternator (regulator) is putting out about the right voltage. I check both my batteries with my multimeter to guesstimate if they're properly ...
