Mine are 3 weeks old and I love 'em. Surprisingly civilised on road and gravel, outstanding in the shit.

Both axle assemblies are laminated during the conversion.

Re: Show us your Portal Diffs!

Mine is trhe one listed under General on Patrol 4x4.com above. They are truly awesome and I wouldn't swap 'em for quids. Takes some time to get used to the different lines you can take with the extra clearance. And all legal!

Re: Gearing for a heavy GU on 35's

Been reading this one with interest. The overall consideration seems to be how the truck will be on road-and at speed. I built my Datto for 4 wheelin'. It is an '06 4.2 coilcab with 5.0: 1 diffs. i.e. 4.11:1 diffs +1.22:1 hub reduction= 5.0:1, due to portals. Using 315/75x16s I am perfectly happy ...

Re: gq patrol getting hot

Possibly heat being generated underbonnet is soaking BACK into the motor. Have experienced this one. Raise bonnet, loosen bonnet retaining bolts to allow a 1cm. or so gap at rear edge, retighten bonnet bolts. GQs are very good at retaining motor heat in the engine bay. Lagging exhaust may also help ...

Re: BFG's vs CLAWS

I run 315/75x16 radial Claws. I am very impressed with them. Less road noise than I anticipated. Awesome gumbo mud traction. Good in sand and satisfactory on rock. On road they give all a tread pattern this extreme could give and sit quite flat under heavy load. Only downside is tendency to chip on ...

Re: mk glow plug relay??

Been down this road recently mate, but on a GU 4.2. The relay can be prised apart if you work at it. Mine had a broken wire in it- soldered it up. Also, the indicator light on the dash gets its power from a different source to the glow plug rail!

I had two LockRights in my Zuki for 100,000 Ks. Only precaution was to swap over sungears to opposite sides. Gives the new couplers a fresh face to work with. Slightly accelerated tyre wear but ya wouldn't be without 'em. Ever.

I am running 315/75x16 Radial Claws on a portalled GU. Bearing in mind that all bushes and bearings etc. are new, I cannot fault them. Used on equal amounts of bitumen, dirt and mud/rocks, I love 'em. A little amount of road noise is to be expected on what is a borderline extreme tyre after all.

Try drilling a 1/8' hole in the thermostat "disc". This will pass a little more water all the time- but ultimately either the exhaust is too restrictive or underhood air temps. too high.
