The only tyre i know of that can be legaly re-groved is one that has RE-GROVABLE moulded into the sidewall.

Normally only on truck tyres.

Pretty sure you can't legaly do it to a passenger or light truck tyre.

But then also a simex bias ply tyres isn't a raod legal tyre to start with.

The feeler guage should slide in the gap snug but not have to be forced.
If you have to force it in then the gap is to small for that particular size.

Would be costly normaly but we reco toyota 4wd engines & gearboxes at work all the time.

Just asking to see if there is any probs with the conversion as now body at work has done this one before.

believe theres a guy thats done it on ih8mud.com

exhaust on the other side

need to fab new engine mounts of course,

need gearbox to suit a 1hz, or i think someone said there might be a bell from a 75series that will mate the 1hz to your current gearbox, but not sure about that.

Replacing a 2h with a 1hz in a 60 series.

Has anybody done this or know of this been done as i'm looking at doing it in my 60 & then adding a turbo for good measure.

Any info would be great

This has no doubt been posted before so even a link if somone knows would be good.

The weak link is the front diff and the diff housing itself as its a forerunner diff centre and high pinion - weak in reverse.

The diffs in the 80 that everybody thinks are lux or 4runner ones are wrong.
The ones in the 80 are just a l;ittle bit smaller that the 60 ones but they are still ...

The swaybars are located on the front of the axle tubes, you maybe able to see it on this pic

It the adjuster pulley ain't turning then that will definatly be a major part of your problem. When you change the pulley also change the bely as this will be stuffed after what you have told us. Better be safe than sorry.

I mounted mine (in the 60 series) accros the trans tunnel just behinde the gearsticks, makes it nice & easy to reach for both driver & passenger.

in relation to the hilux bearings.
it would be a good idea to replace the bearings as when the seal leaks it leaks onto the bearing first then it exits after the bearing, in effect this also washes the grease out of the bearing so then all the bearing runs on is the crapy oil wich dosen't last for ...
