Re: Tyre choices

I've currently got the yoko geolandars, best tyres I've had for 'all-round' use.

Positives
Great on road- quiet, grip well in the wet and don't aqua-plane, wearing OK Currently 50,000ish and plenty of tread left.
Great on hi-speed dirt tracks- predictable, good lateral traction at speed, haven't ...

Re: Tight LSD or Lockright for GQ front??

OL E-locker, $1999.40 fitted with new bearings and a 3 year warranty. More expensive than lockrite but I need high range 4x4 steering. $5-700 cheaper than ARB or TJM from quotes in the last couple of days.

Will probably go this way.

Cheers,
Adam.

Re: Tight LSD or Lockright for GQ front??

SIM79, Daz,

Thanks for the advice, that's what I was afraid of. I don't want to lose high range 4x4 steering. Got a quote today for ARB & TJM front diff locks installed. Both plus of $2,500 (TJM Slightly more) by the time you buy the lockers, compressors, wiring looms and pay for installation. Will ...

Re: Tight LSD or Lockright for GQ front??

Hi SIM79,

I'm thinking of going the lockrite myself but I'm worried about losing steering when touring high range 4x4 on dirt roads, etc. Do you do much of that? Is cornering and steering effected on corregations and bumps?

Cheers,
Adam.

I owned a '93 vogue, 32" tyres, 'chipped' 3.9. Used about 17-19 litres per 100km on Petrol and 19-21 litres per 100km on LPG. This was mixed driving some suburban, some 80-100kph. Best, on petrol, on the highway 16 litres per 100km. Was worse on sand and when 4wding.

Was my daily driver / tourer ...

Well, I got it undone. As Jes suggested, 6 foot crow bar attached to my spanner, smaller crow bar wedged on the chassis. Was still quite a struggle using a 6 foot lever. I tried jacking the end of the spanner at one stage. The back of the car was lifting by just the spanner on the bolt without ...

GQ Pinion flange removal - without a rattle gun??

I've spent the weekend swapping in some 4.3 centres to replace my 3.9s in my GQ.

Centres swapped over easily enough and then I tried undoing the pinion bolts to swap the rear flanges over. I can't get enough leverage nor hold the pinion still enough to budge it. Bent a couple of bars trying. Tried ...

'75 2-door Rangie. Advice Please

Greetings all,

After giving up on Rangie ownership about 2 years ago, the memory of the pain must have subsided enough that I'm looking at a '75 2-door that the guy down the road has for sale. My last Rangie was a '93 that I was relying on to be my daily driver and tourer. Didn't quite work out for ...

I had a similar thing on my GQ. There is a bolt and a pin that hold the callipers to the diff housing. Undo the bolt, rotate callipers off rotors to change pads. callipers swivel on the pin.

On mine, the pin broke and fell out. (mechanic said he had never seen it happen)

When I applied the brakes ...

GQ losing power on LPG

My '92 injected petrol GQ has started intermittently losing power on LPG. Doesn't do it when running on petrol. Only does it under load after about 10-20 secs of having foot down (ie going up hills). Seems to run out of gas and just gets slower and slower, even when I crest the hill and car is no ...

I just got myself a GQ. I didn't get a manual with the vehicle.

If you want camping lights, go LED. Try boating shops. Not as bright as bulbs, but you can leave them on all night without flattening your battery. And you won't be dazzling yourself all night around the camp site.

Of course if you want a rear facing spot light, forget the LEDs.

I added up receipts the other night.

For just over 60 000km, I've spent over $8000 just on repairs. Doesn't count fun things and routine maintenance stuff.

All that on a car I'd be flat out selling for $10 000 these days.

Love driving it, hate owning it.
