Re: fj45 power steering

I have just done the same power steer conversion on my old shorty using bits of an fj62. When mounting the power steer box to the chassis, it is necessary to fit some crush tubes inside the chassis rails to prevent the 'box mount bolts from collapsing the chassis tube and allowing the mount bolts to ...

40 series and 75 series axle swaps

Hi guys,
Has anyone fitted a disk rear end from a 75 series to a 40 series?
Im talking whole rear axle from hub to hub.
Widths seem to be the same and I was hoping this might be another way to get a disk brake rear end and handbrake at the same time.

Thanks
Craig

I called them a while ago about those, approx $1500.
The Hoppers bloke said they were designed for slow moving, underground mine utes and they tend to drag and wear out quick at speed.

Just got an email back from the handbrake company, about $470.00 aus landed here, sounds like a good deal. I suppose I just have to hope the DOT approves it for rego. No i haven't done the conversion yet, was probably just going to get them from eureka offroad, about $500 a pair. Seems a little ...

I need all the driveshaft i can get, the b series diesel is gone and in its place is a 5.0v8 and t700 box, add onto that the Marks transfer adapter and 60 series transfer case and theres not much shaft left. I was worried about the subaru calipers holding ability, thats why I like the idea of the ...

I was talking to the bloke from eureka offroad and he told me the subaru calipers were too small.
My 40 has the full floating rear axles aswell, which i think stops me from doing that conversion.
Can anyone set me straight on this?

Transfer mounted disk handbrake bj 40

Hi all, just chasing some leads on a tranfer mounted disk handbrake for my 40 series. Im running an fj62 transfer case, in place of the standard early 40's unit with the rear mounted drum, and was planning a rear disk conversion aswell, which dosn't allow for a wheel mounted handbrake caliper. Have ...

A transaxle out of a fiat nikki would be perfect in a buggy, 650cc aircooled twin, 4 gears and reverse.
A mate just bought a whole licensed one for $500.

How about a motorbike engine, with the output feeding into a sideways mounted datto 120y independent diff. The diff output shafts could then travel to solid(or otherwise) Axels front and rear. That's bulk reduction gearing. (moto box + datto diff + final diffs). should drive up a wall. The datto ...

how does the 3x the weight thing work?
surley it would depend on the towing capacity of the tow vehicle, stated by the manufacturer of the vehicle and tow bar. i.e. 750kg unbraked, 1600kg braked.

full metal jacket - your correct, and i agree with you, but it was the way i was told. i wouldnt liek to drill the leaf ether, as the other hole, that was original to begin with would then become a weak point, and probably get stressed. I was allways planning to fit the 350, on dual fuel for economy and any wild angles. was thinking more cubes = more toque down low and would be more 'relaxed' making the power than a smaller engine pushing the same kw's, but then the 5.0 came along. hmmmm, decisions decisions. Yes the bolt pattern ...

Just wondering if you are running the sierra steering box and if so how is it connected to the steer hubs, as the drag link is behind the axle on hilux diffs (on mine anyway). Is it as simple as turning the pitman arm around or is it more involved :?:
