Re: GU blowing BLACK SMOKE

Before anything bad happens you should take it and have it professionally tuned. Running the bigger tyres and having accessories will make the motor work harder but you it should not make the motor smoke excessivley. Have a look at your intercooler for oil residue you may have low boost if your ...

Re: Duramax

Yes and no, a duramax will tow a 3.5 tonne boat all day and because of the torque available will do it very easily. A leaned on 4.2 will still tow the same boat but will be working hard due to only having %50 of the torque of the duramax. A worked 4.2 will make a great tourer and will easily sit on ...

Re: Should i buy a 3ltr turbo diesel

In a word no, I would not be buying a 3l Di for towing a 3.5 tonne boat, it will be alrightish for the camper trailer but will really struggle with the boat. These are the series of engines that were well known for their lack of reliability.

Re: turning up Boost on d40

You are going about it the wrong way. On a mechanically injected diesel you would up the boost and fuel to get more power. On a common rail diesel you would normally fit a chip, larger exhaust and possibly a better intercooler to increase the power. At the very least a larger exhaust will allow it ...

Re: Is this a decent Solar Kit?

I have this exact kit and it works well, with my fridge running I am still in positive charge territory ( 40l engel ). The only thing I would do is to extend the wires to 8m long which allows me to park in the shade and have the panel in the sun.

Since you are a diesel fitter why don't you rebuild your motor and build it with more performance in mind. It will cost considerably less and you wont have parts issues particularly if you do remote touring.

Re: Auxiliary batteries in rear of wagon, OK?

The problem with flooded batteries ( wet cell ) is that they emit hydrogen when they are being charged, this is an extemely flammable/explosive gas. If the battery is in a sealed box vented to the atmosphere outside of the vehicle then it is not a problem., but if it is not vented it can lead to an ...

I had a similar problem when I changed over to a CAV fuel filter, you wont see any air in the glass bowl all you will see there is any water. The only way to tell if you have an air leak in the system is to turn the filter upside down and the air bubbles will be pretty obvious. Using the primer ...

Running low pressures with tubes/ split rims results in more punctures as the tube moves around in the tyre/ rim which causes chafing of the tube wich results in puctures. My wife's uncle ran splits on our canning trip last year, he had 6 punctures. When we changed the tubes all tyres had small ...
