What should someone buying a 4.2 GU diesel know before the purchase?
Is anything going to need untimely replacement?
Which models (if any) should be avoided or sought after?
What are the best mild mods someone can and should do to further improve offroad ability? (I've heard transfer low ...

4.4 option
I was forced to do an engine conversion when I hydrauliced my 1987 3.5EFI Rangie V8. I wanted to go diesel (300tdi for $4,000 plus fitting), but was tempted by the promise of a fully rebuilt and rebored 4.4 P76 connected to my 3.5 computer gear for around $2,500. When job was done invoice was for $5 ...

Range Rover rims, muddies, bars, etc. for sale
Took these things off immaculate 1988 Rangie when I bought it in order to make it more bush capable - plus some other bits.
Just try buying these at a wrecker for anywhere near these prices (if you can get them)!

We've both heard that the Nissan drivelines are "unbreakable" and I've heard that the build quality of Nissan's are better ...

Are new 350 Chev V8s a cheaper alternative Rover engine?
Recently spent $5,000 + rebuilding a P76 for my 1988 Rangie with R380. Not a bad engine, except for the fuel economy (26L/100km or 270kms from my standard 70L tank - oouch!). This was the same as its 3.5 predecessor, which the new motor borrowed the EFI top end from. So in some respects I'm better ...
