Re: Any suitable off the shelf tube for 12mm ID crush tubes?

Thanks Lads, Ended up with 20 mm NB pipe with 2.6mm wall and M20 bolts. Dead set overkill but thats pretty much typical for me.

Re: Any suitable off the shelf tube for 12mm ID crush tubes?

Thanks mate. I did note a likely option around that size but from memory it was a thin wall. I'm chasing a 3 or 4 mm wall as it is for a pivot point with a shear load on my boat trailer.

Any suitable off the shelf tube for 12mm ID crush tubes?

Has anyone had luck finding off the shelf tube suitable for crush tubes to suit bolts around 12mm diameter? All I can find tends to be significantly larger ID than 12 or 14 mm and I'm hoping to avoid getting a few one off's machined up.

Re: off road tiny trailer?

I took mine to Melville and the Starke no worries. Treg hitch, extra rollers on trailer to spread the keel load, 16" wheels to match car. Standard axle. I made an RHS frame to sit under the normal trailer frame. This frame carried the spring hangers, cross members for extra rollers and the mudguards ...

Re: Wagon camping set ups

There may be room for a single mattress beside the fridge but it would be a squeeze. I can also tell you that camp fridges seem quiet until you have to sleep right next to one. I spent a trip to the cape sleeping in the back of my ute next to the fridge and that thing woke me just about every night ...

winch power cables - soldered lugs OK?

I'm replacing the power leads on my winch so that I can get the solenoid box mounted under the bonnet. Is it ok to solder the lugs on to the cables or should they be crimped?

Never done wiring for this much current before so open to any suggestions.

Premier winch - price? and current draw vs tigerz?

Anyone done any better than about $1500 for a premier winch lately?

The big selling point for me is the minimal current draw (using the 4wd monthly test). Anyone got any sums comparing the current draw to that of any of the tigerz11 range?

2" suspension Lift or 1/3 of the manufacturers bump stop height is the max.... Where is it referenced on paper that 2" suspension lift is max in QLD? I can't track it down anywhere. Is a 100 A solenoid big enough to parallel winch batteries?

If I want to set up my dual batteries to parallel automatically when the winch controller is triggered, is the 100 amp sure power solenoid big enough? They also do the 200 amp but it is more $ ($200 vs $375 respectively).

Any thoughts?

I made up the "half pipes" today so I'll see how they go.

I like the angle iron ideas too. Avoids having the pressure point on the upper most radius and should split the load. I'll give that a go next if what I've made so far doesn't work.

Pipe bending - avoiding small dints from rollers

I had a crack at my first pipe bending and I'm quite happy with the actual bend. Used a dawn bender and die, 40nb pipe with 3.2 (?)mm wall for 48mm OD. My only query is what is the best way to avoid the small dints that the rollers left? I quite possibly dinted it at the very end as my 90 deg bend ...

How much do your sliders flex / how much clearance to body?

I've got some pretty beefy designs in my head but as even the most over-engineered things can flex, how much clearance do people allow beween their sliders and their sills?

I don't want to leave 10mm and find out later the hard way that 20mm would have saved me some dings.

Genuine toyota supply and fit quotes at $400 dearer than ABS, plus machining if necessary (and when isn't it)! It would be cheaper to drive to Brissie and get it done!
