Re: Shorty :D
My experience with SWB gen 1 and LWB gen 1 and 2.5 is that while the SWB may be more capable off road, it's not as stable on road as a LWB. I've had a few unnerving experiences with the SWB where it's hit bumps and started dancing around the road. For a travel oriented car I'd much prefer a LWB ...

Re: Alternator not charging??
This is common for 4D56 engines. When I had my 4D56T Pajero I ran a heavy duty cable with a relay directly from the battery to the glow plugs and a toggle switch mounted on one of the blanks on the dashboard. I would put on the ignition and flick the switch on, count to between 5 or 7 seconds, flick ...

Re: IMPORT ADVICE FOR PAJERO NEWBIE
Going to see about some 5W-30 oil, that may help in winter. First I will check the glow plugs but. Love driving the 2.8 auto, it just roars whenever you rev it over 2,000, from the outside (or with the windows down) you hear the intercooler roar and it catches peoples attention!!

Over here in the UK we're not as extreme as you guys, most of us on POCUK wouldn't go near cutting bodywork and welding new shock mounts etc. but on here its quite common. In the UK its a lot more popular to modify Land Rovers if you're looking a serious offroader, coilover conversions etc can be ...

Re: IMPORT ADVICE FOR PAJERO NEWBIE
Glad you got sorted Will, the new tyres look fantastic. Tonight my Pajero really struggled to start when I finished work, too cold for her I guess. It's stormy outside, Pajero started and then died when I was reversing, took quite a few revs and a lot of key turning to get her going again!! All good ...

Ah cool, that looks mean Dan. The way you can see the front tyres with the factory bumper removed makes it look so aggressive, if I seen you driving close behind me I would worry you were going to ram me with that big bumper!! It looks great, those are nice steel wheels, are they 15" or 16 ...

Re: Help!
I found winding torsion bars up really high made it handle like a pig, do a ball joint flip at the front and you will be able to wind it down a little but still retain lift, then use a hacksaw and take a cm or so off the rubber bump stops, but make sure to leave at least 1cm or so of rubber on them ...

Thats Jetski David from Pajero Owners Club UK, thats his daily driver, never used offroad. He uses it for shows and the whole 'road legal monster truck' scene, won him plenty of awards. At the minute hes building a Hilux Surf for the same purpose, but you have to admit, impractical, but it does turn ...

Ahh women!! I was talking to one of the cleaners from my work and she was asking me about the MPG and road tax for my 2.8, and I told her 16-18mpg average and £205 per year tax, then I said "I'm really pleased with it my last one was much worse!". The look on her face, then she said "I thought ...

Re: Over drive
I only use Overdrive over 60mph, the standard gearing is fine for 50, but around 60 and 70 the revs are a bit too high and the fuel economy gets poor around higher revs, I would suggest 60mph plus only... 70mph is horrible with Overdrive off, the revs are way over 3000!! Guess you just bought the ...

Thats never been a problem for me Scott, usually when I hop in and the engines cold the seats are usually too cold to want to sit in them, so I hop in and drive (easy) straight off!! Haha. My last Pajero (mk2 swb) had mud tyres, standard (crap) shocks, and it handled terrible, especially over bumpy country roads, it loved pulling towards the ditch!! My new Pajero (mk2 swb) has the same mud tyres, a 40mm body lift, fully working electronic shocks (set to hard on motorways), and it ...

Re: Help!
Mud tyres? Mine waves around like a boat over 60mph!! What tyres he got? Stiffer suspension helps, and if hes put bigger tyres on then it sounds like what they call 'bump steer', upgraded steering stabilizers help this, usually unneccessary on standard tyre sizes, its when bigger tyres are fitted ...

Re: mitsubishi diff ratios
Certainly once the wheel is rolling then kinetic energy lends a hand? I would imagine the difference in MPG is under acceleration, uphill, and getting up to the engines peak torque figure? The wider wheels do add more resistance, especially mud tyres (they killed my fuel economy), but when you're ...

Re: IMPORT ADVICE FOR PAJERO NEWBIE
Hi Jack, thanks for the advice. I cleaned the EGR valve on my Jtop a few months ago and it certainly helped with the smoke, what I did was leave the EGR valve overnight in a mixture of white spirit and lemonade, then took it out next day and powerwashed it... The dirt which came out was unbelievable ...

My JTop died and I replaced it with a 2.8 auto.... sitting at 60 or 70 and hitting overdrive is nice, drops it down to 2000rpm... Not sure what gears the 2.8 auto is now!

Re: RIP My 1992 J-Top - Hello My 1995 Metaltop
Great job, hopefully all goes well for you!! If the Pajero has the winter pack there will be an orange sticker on the inside of the driver door and there will be two batteries under the bonnet and an engine preheat (to warm the glow plugs before starting on cold mornings). I am unsure if the engine ...

Re: RIP My 1992 J-Top - Hello My 1995 Metaltop
Thanks 4x4boi, never thought of that!! Sounds like a lot of drain on the alternator!! Do you have the winter pack (2 x batteries)? Mine has the 2 batteries so hopefully this shouldn't be too much strain. I plan on having 6 x round spotlights on top, probably 4 of them using 55w driving light bulbs ...
