Curly axle questions

I've got a few specific axle questions, I'm looking at doing an IRS in a vw buggy of mine.. And I wanna throw some Paj gear under it!!

1. Are the later 103mm cv and axle sets readily available and priced well?
2. How easy is it to unbolt the stub axle from the outer CV
3. What's the max operating ...

Re: High Steer Issues

Cheers for the piccies Ben. Is there any 'give' built into yours? In the rear, there is always a shackle or slip&twist design. Yours looks like heims and tube and solid as hell!!

Re: High Steer Issues

I had nearly pulled it all apart to notch the perch into the housing but it seems it will handle OK with minus one leaf. Is it often seen to have a Trac or Wrap bar on front leaf setups?? I know it wrapped pretty bad in the back before linking it, never really saw any sign of it in the front but ...

Thanks blokes. all good ideas. I ended up just dropping a leaf. I didn't want to but it now works and we're driving again!! It still touches but just a love tap on full lock now. Mischief managed!

I really can't afford to take out any leaves as the pack goes WELL negative already with the big old V8 over the top of them.

Re: High Steer Issues

Yeah mate did a knuckle cut. Caster is at -3. The front pack is 38mm thick. The reason it's hitting is because the pumpkin is larger on 60 diff, I had the 'climb' up the side of it a bit, meaning the perches sit higher in relation to axle centreline than a hilux diff...

High Steer Issues

After putting new perches on the 60s diff, the leaf pack sits higher on the diff tube and fouls hard on the tierod on droop. Im just running standard Toyota rod ends at the moment with a Trailgear highsteer setup. I need a way to raise the tierod off the highsteer arms further. I have thought of ...

Re: Plumbing brakes on a truggy

It works pretty awesome aye, The only downside is you cant really get much from it with the engine off, and it wont compress at all while your on the foot brake.... I knew these 2 things would happen. Cant complain. Works freaken awesome just driving along though!! I havnt got a rear disconnect so ...

Re: Plumbing brakes on a truggy

Back on topic of plumbing brakes on a truggied Rig..

I bought one of the pictured handbrakes and fitted it all up top to the truck, piece a piss.. only thing is the threads in the brake cylinder are imperial - cost $7 for the correct parts. Also the brake lines need different flares for each port ...

Re: Explain dual cases to me

That is correct regarding shifter position. Although you aren't LOCKED IN with shifter position its pretty difficult to change. You can fab linkages and bent sticks and all that jazz but thats alot of fucking around.

regarding your Nissan specific question... you're in a room of yota boys on this ...

Re: Plumbing brakes on a truggy

Well it turns out it's pretty common to use the lux discs and machine me to fit so I'll go down that route.

After researching the hydro handbrake.. From what I understand - the rear brake line from the pedal master cylinder goes "through" (into the IN and out the OUT) the handbrake MC and onto the ...

Re: Plumbing brakes on a truggy

Yeah that's true Evan, I'll try to source one and plumb it in.. Does anyone know the answer to plumbing it though? I highly doubt a T joint into the rear brake line would work..

I don't have any other discs to trial fit... So have no idea what else might fit..

Re: Plumbing brakes on a truggy

We pulled the hubs out of the 40s drums and tried to fit a standard front ln65 disc on the hub and the centre circle is too small on the disc, by maybe 2-3mm. I'll see if its worth machining out in the next few nights.

Regarding that handbrake, We though we could fab one from a clutch cylinder ...

As long as it all fits and there's no clearance issues, there's no issue at all if the question is purely UP vs DOWN.

Re: Explain dual cases to me

That truck is Marlins from marlin crawlers and actually has 3 transfer cases. His low low low is close to 1000:1 iirc!! Lunatic!! He's in like 16th gear in that video. Epic wheeling.

It's a tonne of fab work to fit duals, but it gives wicked flexibility in crawling speed. But if your keen on ...

Re: Running 2 different diff ratios?

Could that be in the Toyota when they changes from a 4.11 to a 4.10? I've never heard of a factory vehicle with different ratios!?

My thoughts are that for one trip it won't do much harm on the soft stuff. I'll just make sure I use a lot of 2wd on the flat tracks. It's more fun like that anyway ...

Running 2 different diff ratios?

I'm halfway through a 4link with landcruiser diff in the back of my lux and have a trip coming up with a lot of other stuff to do before hand..

It's a trailered rig and would only be used in the dirt.
The 40series rear diff is 4.11 whereas the front Lux diff is 4.33

So did you just pull the drums off the hubs as replace with discs? What was the reason for using The hilux studs? Then the discs are centred around the studs and fastened by the wheelnuts?

I have a set of discs and ...

Re: Plumbing brakes on a truggy

Thats what i"m hoping to run - straight lines to caliper. But worried about distribution and rears locking up.

Diffs are 40 series. Front will have all the hilux knuckles with highsteer and discbrakes put on it. Rear is now up in the air.

I do know 60series came out with disc rear at some stage ...

Re: Plumbing brakes on a truggy

From reading about others rigs I saw discs as more of an upgrade and not a necessity. Drums can be set up to work well in the rear, especially with very little weight in the rear such as my truck. Correct me if Im wrong... I do not wish to die.

Back to the original question.. Is there a way around ...

Plumbing brakes on a truggy

How do people plumb their brakes?

Re: Explain dual cases to me

When I was looking into I found duals to be the more expensive option (excluding cost of extra Tcase because I already have one) I have an auto though, which crawls awesome in normal low.

Reduc gear are also an easier install, whether you or a pro does it...

Keep in mind you have your normal ...
