Re: 40 series rubber inserts?
I think its just one of the design faults on these great old trucks that ill have to put up with. I guess ill just have to do it all again in 30 years. Thats ok. Im sure the old 2h will still be going strong.

Re: 40 series rubber inserts?
Thanks clankey but thats not quite what Im after. I think using sika is not really a solution either as loosecannon pointed out the whole thing needs to be flexible i think its only a matter of time before it cracks of and lets moisture in. Im thinking some very thin rubber tape and I like the ...

Re: 40 series rubber inserts?
Hey Tasman, I had a look on ebay searching for "40 series rubber" and got nowhere. There is no landcruiser part for what Im talking about its more of a clark rubber thing.
Im thinking maybe some sikaflex product would be the go anyway.

40 series rubber inserts?
Hi, Im spending a lot of time and effort cleaning up and painting all the panels from the front of my hj47 and i am noticing that where they touch each other is where they rust. When i put it all back together i want it to last a long time. I was thinking of getting some rubber strapping and ...

Re: 47 series hand brake on a 5 speed
The chassis cross member was not affected. Thats the tubular one I assume you mean. The hand brake drum was close but it has never touched. Some of the forums say it cant be done without taking the engine out bolting the box on and then putting the whole thing in but its not true. The engine will ...

Re: 47 series hand brake on a 5 speed
I put a 60 series 5 speed in my 47 troopy and took the back half off the 47 transfer and swapped it for the back half of the 60 transfer. It fits perfectly and the stock handbrake cable will still reach. Way easier then doing the rear wheels handbrake set up.

Re: Hj61 hf55 Vs Hj60 hf55
Thanks MQ. Im glad Ive found someone who agrees with me. It is logical isnt it. Why would you turbo a 2h and leave the gear ratios the same. The extra torque created should translate into a fuel saving by haveing lower revs at the same speed. I have not found any proof yet however. Im waiting for ...

Re: Hj61 hf55 Vs Hj60 hf55
I know you dont buy it red60 but Id love to prove you wrong. I know everyone says diffs and tyres will affect it but I dont see how. Sure it will affect "actual" road speed but it wont change the relationship betwen the speedo and the tacho. For example: If i was to put the truck up on blocks with ...

Hj61 hf55 Vs Hj60 hf55
I have a 12ht with a manual tranmission behind it and I also have a 2h with a manual tranmissinon behind it. The 2h is in my hj47 and I had a 5 speed from a 60 put into it. I did this because at 100kph the 4 speed did 3000 rpm however in my hj61 at 100 kph it was only doing 2100. On test driving my ...

Re: hj61 auto into hj47
Red, Im no expert in landcruiser drive train so Im not 100% sure all I know is that there is an unexplained difference in revs between my two vehicles and they both have 5 speeds. I know that everyone says that all h55f boxes are geared the same but i dont buy it. I read of one other guy that says ...

Re: 60 series
I think you could do better. I paid 4000 for mine and it has a 12ht with front and rear arb lockers. But had 440 on the clock and some rust and no 5th. But the motor is so great that i dont care. I would steer clear of the petrol motor. Ebay is the place to get a cheap 60 you just have to be patient ...

Re: hj61 auto into hj47
Im thinkg of doing something similar. Ive got a mint fj45 fromthe rural fire brigade which looks like it just drove off the showroom floor. I lke the idea of putting an auto into it and then later on a 12ht. I do have a few reservations though. The main one is that the auto seems to take away some ...

Re: Hj47 5 speed swap speedo cable
I've found the guy that did it on my gearbox and he says it's not that difficult. It's a matter of swapping the rear half of the 47 transfer onto the front half of the 60 transfer. The hard part is to remove the 47 output shaft with the hand brake drum and installing it into the 60 transfer. If I ...

Re: Fj40 3.7 diffs
Nice one Red. I reckon that was the tip of the day. You were spot on and as I wiped the oil away there it was just as you said but unfortunately it said 9x37. So it looks like I lucked out this time but Im keen to continue on my quest to find the holy grail of cruiser parts. Just for interest I ...

Re: Fj40 3.7 diffs
Thanks for that. It was very helpful And a great tip too. Ive been hunting for 3.7s for years but Im starting to think they are just a myth. I counted my teeth and there are 37 so its 4.11. Ive always thought 3.7s would be a good easy and cheap alternative to a 5 speed swap but now that Ive done the ...

Fj40 3.7 diffs
Ive just aquired two complete diffs drum to drum from a very early fj40. Im not sure what year but I know they are out of a three speed. Did all three speed cruisers have 3.7s ? I have taken the back of the diff housing off and I can count the teeth on the ring but not on the pinion. Does anybody ...

Re: Child seats in a troopy
I tried getting child seats in my 40 series troopie but because the roof is bolted on its againt he rules the put a child seat anchor piont there So I bought a bj70 and put some forward facing seats in there. I ended up selling it though as the thought of lifting a baby over the front seats was just ...

Re: Hj47 5 speed swap speedo cable
I didnt think they would bolt together either so I was a bit sceptical when I bought this one off ebay. The guy said it was put together by a mechanic up nambour way and there are a few tricks but its not difficult. I would have prefered a 60 series transfer and I got one off ebay but it was junk. I ...

Re: Hj47 5 speed swap speedo cable
Thanks Ray, Thats exactly what I did in the end. I spoke to toyota and they told me the longest one they had was 2450mm long so I pulled mine out and measured it and it was exactly the same. It didnt take long to find a better route. Saved my $175. I took it out for its maiden voyage thisafter noon ...

Hj47 5 speed swap speedo cable
Hi, Ive just swapped a 60 series five speed gearbox with a hj47 transfer case bolted onto it into my hj47 troop carrier. It was all very simple and works great even the hand brake cable fitted perfectly but the only problem I have is the original speedo cable is too short by about 20mm. Ive looked ...

H55f transfer swap hj61 hj47
Hi, First post for me. Im a bit stuck and would like some advice. I have two h55 gearboxes and transfers from 60series landcruisers and Im trying to get one of them to fit into my hj47 troopy. Gearbox 1 is a 1984 hj60 with a manual transfer shift lever but it has water damage inside and the gears ...
