I'd hate to say it mate, but it's not worth the bother. I know a few people who have tried and failed. It's much easier to use the 1UZ auto with Surf transfer.

Surf box has 2 solenoids, 1U box has 4 solenoids and a few other differences.

Yes the mid-sump will foul on the diff even with a 2" body lift. As with Twisty, I used a 2" body lift and a front sump and it sits approx 20-30 above the steering arm.

Had the same problem on a different car (A surf) and it was a toe in/out problem.

I have a mate who is a tyre fitter (unfort not close enough to use) and I told him that my toe in/out alignment was out by so much and his reply was "gee that must have squealed around corners" without telling him ...

Pulled the motor/g'box/t'case out of surf all in one go with std engine crane. You can get enough height out of it, but will need to swing the lot around and manually lift the t'case end over the rad support panel (not heavy).

It can be done at home very easily.

The only thing to be wary of is that you cannot pull the axles out far enough without disconnecting the brake hoses.

I dont need a puller either, just undo the 4 bolts that hold the backing plate/brakes onto to the diff housing.
