Re: Hunting 12HT on startup

I'd say the idle is too low when dead cold. I had to mess around with idle speed on one at work, they hunt when the idle is too low, almost sound like they are camming over.

Do they have a cold start idle up device? maybe this isnt working and causing the issue? although I dont think they do.

Re: 1hz Diesel fuel cutoff solinoid problems

100 series have a big black box immobiliser thing on top of the fuel cutoff solenoid. PITA to get off.

but if you do get it off you can bypass the immobiliser and just run the ignition 12V wire to the fuel solenoid as per 75/8/9 etc.

It should be OK as long as you dont give it too much. we had a Coaster bus at work that would run away, but only when you got up it and it got more blowby, also recently fitted a Mitsubishi common rail that poured fuel into the rocker cover and to intake via the PCV (lesson - check the fuel pipes on ...

Pretty sure the no welding steering components is more to do with cast iron parts as the heating changes the metallurgy and causes the metal to crystallise and break, or some such.

Billet high steer arms shouldnt be a problem :) or at least fabricated from steel plate items.

What model Hilux is it? My old LN46 had a 253, all I did was put a rad frm a later model diesel, probably LN106 I think, had the hoses repositioned to suit the V8 outlets. The terrain tamer or similar kit which comes with all the parts, including inner axle seals last time I checked is worth between $150-$200 depending what model.

Genuine book time for the job is 8.8 hours, so that is where alot of the cost goes, it is a whole day job.

Depending on which direction you want it pointing and how long you need it, you may be able to cut and shut the stock crossover pipe? I reckon the profile is pretty similar all the way across, so cut it where the angle is right and length is right and get it welded on. I reckon you'd even get a die ...

up until 60s they are 4.11(37/9), then with 80s they go to 4.10(41/10), then 105 go 4.30(43/10) and 100 go 4.10 this is for diesels, and pretty sure petrol uses same ratios.

(they change from 4.11 to 4.10 as for virtually the same ratio more teeth means more contact means quieter and stronger)

Sort of looking at doing this for myself. I think bolt on face outwards on HZJ75 is same as 60, offsets are correct etc. same hubs but cutouts for disc version to access handbrake adjusters. Only difference is the spacing of the bolts/studs that hold the backing plates to the housing, disc brake has ...

I think I would like to deal with the electrical gremlins that would come about by using an LS conversion than trying to get the carb related emission control systems that would come with a 1996 model engine any day of the week. I drive Landcruisers all day, and if you think you can tell the difference in handling between fulltime 4WD and a part time in 2WD, you are driving way too fast. What oil seals are you using?

Have had this problem with non genuine crank seals on Hilux diesels. A couple at work failed and when we removed the balancer the seal came with it.

Cheap non japanese seals.

As long as the wheel nuts arent overly tight (properly tensioned, neva sieze on threads etc. 80-90lb/ft is about right for most M12 stuff) any cheap rattle gun would do the job, a more expensive one will do it better and longer. If you currently have the RB30 carb engine, I believe the VL engine will bolt in using the patrol sump and engine mounts.

When you wire up the computer, you will pretty much need to fit it as it comes out of the Holden engine bay, including the airflow metre and oxy sensor.
