I have a '78 40series LandCruiser and am having a few little probs with the glowplugs. I used to have a manual button installed where i could turn the key to accessories and press a button on the dash which would manually heat the plugs but i had a starting problem ...

So the imput shaft from my current one attaches to the replacement one. Correct???

mines done over 400 with rebuild in the last 50 and the oil pressure sits low at idle and picks with revs. it was worst with the turbo on. i have an oil cooler to fix this but i also run penrite oil that arounf 30/60w oil this helps and lasts a lot longer than other oils

I ahd this same problem with my BJ40 so i just replaced the glow plugs and have never seen it glow so bright before. Problem is the Cruiser still blows out a ton of white smoke in the mornings or on any cold start....?????

to set the valve clearances when hot or at cold, you need to turn the engine over by hand untill the little mark on the main pulley lines up with the little pin thing that sticks out over the pulley on the top drivers side of the engine, if the front two valves (could be back two, i'll have to ...

the black smoke continues when running and there is a knocking noise fom the engine, makes me think its the valves.

got to do the xmas shopping today so wont have time to play, but i'll let you know what happens when i get the chance.

I finally found how to adjust the valve clearances and thought i did it properly so tried to roll start the cruiser about 10mins ago.

The thing started but hell did it blow out a ton (ok a s*%t load of) black and appearently sone sort of brown???? smoke........ WTF??????????

I finally bought a new head for the bj40 and in time got the thing put on and all back together but now im having troubles starting it.

Everything i believe is connected properly and i've primed the diesel

The battery has gone dead so we tried to jump it and the engine turned over ...

It would definately have to be the head. This just happened to my B engine and i only pulled the head off the other day and took it to the head man and she was cracked between the valves and a few other places! Not cool.

Made some enqs on a new head and the cheepest aftermarket one here in SA was ...

Yeah, haven't checked on the cost of the gasket yet, just hoping that the head isn't screwed.....

Here in SA you are allowed to go 30% larger engine size in your car than what the original largest engine size was that came with that model before having to produce it to the road transport guys for ...
