Anti-stall in action. You can hear the brakes groaning..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZ57E6ZayLo Of course the ramps are set up so TC doesn't have to work too hard - and there are other 4x4s that could do this, but that doesn't devalue the spectacle of the Defender making it look easy! Okay, I know as much about this as I do about the space shuttle, but surely it doesn't make any difference if it's high or low pinion so long as all other factors are the same. In other words, as long as you are running on the same side of the gear teeth, you should have the same strength. The ...

I'm pretty sure the t-case is still the LT-230 but with 1.2 high range. Unfortunately it is probably the LT-230Q (quiet) gears from the Disco II which according to Bill/daddylonglegs are not as stout as the older gears. I'm also pretty sure it is still Rover diffs front and rear with P38 on the 110 ...

63:1 crawl ratio sounds good. A tad more torque can't be bad, and frankly if the thing has better heating/air con, who the hell cares what the facia looks like? ;) Not sure about the bonnet bulge, but with steel wheels, black grille/surround and no air con nose it'll probably look fine. If memory serves from other threads, the Rover radius arms are forged and the Nissan ones are cast - hence you can reheat/bend the Rovers but not the Nissans. Just a FYI.

As you may know Ashcroft has designed their low range gearset so that there is no overlap between high and low range i.e. low 5th is slightly lower geared than 1st gear in high. Nick, I was wondering what you plan to do for the gear linkage - I know the factory 129s had no transmission tunnel within the cab, being mounted so high - and a very long gearstick as a result. I believe 1-tons (at least those with ENVs) had a chamfer/trimming of the front crossmember to clear the ENV diff, even with the bump stop spacers. I don't think this is present on my military chassis but can't be sure as I haven't seen a 1-ton in person. Maybe Nick can identify the chamfer for us ...

Maybe I'm missing something that is already out there, but I think there would be demand for cheap conversion kits to put the strong AEU land rover 90/110 CVs into series front axles to get rid of the UJs. 23/24 spline shafts to suit would also be good. Anyone agree?

Defender purists look away......

Found this site recently. The 90 has a front SOA leaf conversion and probably Dana 60s front and rear - looks like it works quite well, but a bit top heavy.

There are videos at the bottom of the page.

I have seen people state that 110 trailing arms are beefier than Disco arms (think a few have swapped to 110 arms on the UK challenge scene). I can't confirm this myself though.
