I have had good experiences with Total Traction Drivelines in Moorabbin. Talk to Matt on 03-95551501. The recently rebuilt the rear axle on my GQ patrol after it was damaged due to the previous owner not torquing the pinion nut correctly after replacing a seal. They have all the right tools and a ...

Need to rebuild my rear diff
Hi All, My rear diff is quite noisy and the pinion seal is leaking quite badly. It looks like I need to rebuild it. Can anyone in Melbourne give me the names of where they have had this sort of rebuild done along with costs and work done? I have not pulled it apart to discover whether I have ...

As far as running the thing you could just use your stock ECU with an interceptor like a UniChip, SMT-6 or Chiptorque Xeed to tweak the mixtures. Going to aftermarket ECU would be a little extreme!

Hi, I have been researching this subject a fair bit recently as well and discovered one thing just recently that may affect your purchase of rope from a marine shop. It seems that the construction of UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) rope varies between that used for mooring boats ...

Engine size has pretty much nothing to do with it I think. Compare the 3L nissan ZD30 with the Iveco 3L engine you find in their smaller truck chassis. One is known to be weak and almost certainly would be classified as light duty. The other is a solid chunk of cast iron that can take huge amounts ...

What is the nut size for the Range Rover? I am the guy who has been selling the 500Nm 12V impact wrenches on eBay (although I am temporarily very low on stock) and I ship with 17mm, 19mm, 21mm and 23mm. This is fine for Nissan owners like me but I have since found out that 'cruisers are 22mm! For ...

The ultimate alternator
Hi all, For those hard core electric winchers amongst us, there is an interesting article on Autospeed at the moment here: http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_2724/article.html Basically, to paraphrase the article: Visteon's SpeedStart12 is a belt-driven integrated starter generator that operates within ...

Of course if you were looking to set up a nice winch system, a 24V alternator with vacuum pump would make a lot of sense! Personally, I would check the system for leaks since as someone else said vavle timing would have to be pretty extreme not to have decent vacuum. I recently had a similar problem ...

I avoided the engine bay altogether by running the cable inside the inner guard, tied up to the metal on the passenger side. The cable then runs past the FM radio aerial then through the boot for the passenger front door cables (speakers, power windows etc). Very neat and keeps cable away from hot ...

I looked at the PWR but in the end picked up a Subaru Water-Air intercooler from an early Liberty RS. Total cost was $650 + fitting. Issues I had were: 1. Pump bearings were shot so pump was very very noisy. Looked at repairing it but then just bought a Davies-Craig booster pump (part #9001) instead ...

Marks adapters are developing Portals for Patrol and Cruiser
Hi all, Just got back from the Melbourne 4WD Show. On display at the Marks Adapters stand was a Nissan Patrol front axle with 4" lift portal hubs mounted on each end! Looks like they change the diff ratio so that the final ratio is only 1.4:1 lower than standard. According to the bloke on the stand ...

It is a little more complicated than that I think. The goal of the exhaust brake is usually to maintain a specific pressure in the exhaust. Duty is variable and depends on lots ...

Rotating rocker cover breather on TD42
Hi All, I have totally redone the inlet piping on my GQ TD42 to allow for the installation of a Liberty water-air intercooler. The only bit left to do is to plumb the rocker cover breather back to the inlet pipe before the turbo. Does anyone know whether the breather valve thingy on top of the ...

Hard starting particularly after a re-build can be caused by low compression while new rings bed in. Make sure tappet clearances are set properly and injection pump timing is correct. I advanced my pump timing from the factory mark (0.35mm plunger lift@TDC) to 0.75mm=6degbtdc (fact manual setting ...
