Re: Re:

5 or so years ago I got a fully rebuilt/reco'd 3L motor in my Hilux. I was planning on doing exactly what this mototune guy says. When I went to pick her up I found they had already done 82km of gentle driving around town. I asked them if they did any breaking in procedures and they said you don't ...

Righto. Since this has apparently taken off, here's the guy you are talking about Scott: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I used this break in procedure for my DRZ70. Re: HJ75 2H motor Oil Filter Housing

but I have read on other threads on this forum that there are no good ones in Canberra Yes, that's what I'm finding out. Thanks for the link anyway. Turns out Toyota will have the part tomorrow morning. I hope they do use a screw-on type. There seems to be some confusion in this area. The one that ...

HJ75 2H motor Oil Filter Housing

After painting the work carpark black yesterday, it turns out I need a new oil filter housing. Apparently the previous owner somehow managed to get the wrong filter to stay on, and it was just luck that it held on for this long. It's at a mechanic's place right now as I'm stranded away from home ...

Re: What to do?

Yeah post up some names fo shizzle. You can't really get in trouble as long as you tell the truth. Okay I'll try to keep it short. Goulburn Engine Centre - approximately 5 years ago. FULL rebuild. Price seemed okay and reasonable. I had my ideas of what to do to run-in a new motor and bed the rings ...

Re: What to do?

Pretty sure 1998 is the first of the IFS Hiluxen (for 4WDs), so your 97 should be the solid front end. I'd suggest turboing your 2.8L diesel, and depending on how far and wide you're going to venture, think about a long-range fuel tank. The slightly-less-than-60litre capacity of my Hilux used to ...

Thanks I'll do that this weekend. I read the other threads about which oil to use so I'll go with that too.

Re: HJ75 - Can't get shifter out of 5th.

Thanks for the replies guys. Well driving home was fun. 190km of highway mixed with steep-climbing dirt twisty roads. All with only these two ratios to choose from: 0.845 x 1.959 x 4.110 -> 245/75R16 (1000RPM = 21.4km/h) 0.845 x 1.000 x 4.110 -> 245/75R16 (1000RPM = 42.0km/h) Well coming back to ...

HJ75 - Can't get shifter out of 5th.

Driving to work this morning approaching the 60 zone of a town that I pass through on the way, I found I was stuck in 5th gear. I'd been in 5th for the last 10km I'd say, so who knows when it actually happened. I can put the clutch in fine, but still can't get it out of gear. I gently transition ...

Re: HJ75 Dual Fuel Tanks - Mysterious Behaviour

Well so much for my internet skills. I got heaps of hits for HJ75 with 2H having a 90 litre tank as standard, and an optional 90 litre auxiliary. 80 and 45 sounds a lot more likely given my filling efforts. Still, if I wanna get freaky, Brown Davis can replace either or both tanks with a 170L. 340L ...

HJ75 Dual Fuel Tanks - Mysterious Behaviour

I've got a 1985 HJ75 trayback ute that has dual fuel tanks. That much I can say with certainty. When I first bought this vehicle, thanks to dodgy fuel gauges, I had the opportunity to run both tanks down to completely "empty" on two separate occasions. On refilling, I got 83 litres into the rear ...

Re: Anyone driven a RAV4 across a river before?

I agree with other I would drive it, but we are not there to assess the situation. My only suggestion is that with the increase electrics this can be a problem. Look in the owners manual it may give you a Manufactures recommended maximum fording depth. That's a good idea. I'll check that out ...

Re: Anyone driven a RAV4 across a river before?

Buy a cheap set of taller tyres.. fixed If only! The car came with 225/70 and they rubbed when cornering. I put the proper 215/70 on and now they don't rub. That's how little room I have to play with. What I really want is to be able to put my beloved Cooper STTs on, but they're 225/75. Not a hope.

Re: Anyone driven a RAV4 across a river before?

So you have a 70cm diameter wheel and want to cross a 50cm depth. The exhuast will push the water out no worries. At 50cm you won't need to worry about the intake unless your going way to fast. Always a possibility of getting a coil pack or some other electrics wet but given; Electrics will dry out ...

Re: Anyone driven a RAV4 across a river before?

Are you worried about your safety ie Is the water running fast? Can you get out and walk out if the car stopped without any potential harm to yourself or others, whats on the bottom rock or mud? It's a concrete causeway, so walking is no problem. The water is flowing a bit slower than walking pace ...

Anyone driven a RAV4 across a river before?

I am currently driving a 1997 RAV4. I'll give you all a minute to stop giggling. Unfortunately it was an emergency purchase as I just needed anything with wheels to get to work. I normally drive an LN106 diesel Hilux which never has any troubles with these river crossings, but it's currently being a ...
