Not a hilux, I have an 86 RJ70 Bundera, when I bought it 5th gear was gone so I had the box rebuilt. The G52 is a sweet little box, but in all honesty it is really more of a slop box than a gear box. When I get around to it I will eventually fit an R150 from a diesel bundera with an adapter for the ...

Droopypete,

Does the Bundy have a HiLux or Landcruiser style Tcase? I mean is the rear drive shaft centered in the vehicle, or offset to the right side like a FJ40?

Those with R151F gearboxes, is the Tcase gear or chain driven?

3RZ-FE 2.7 liter swap in Bundy

Anybody done this swap retaining the R151F gearbox?

Is there an OEM or aftermarket bellhousing available? Something to use besides the Marks G52/W56 to R151F adapter plate.

Thanks!

The turbo 4Runners in the US have a 22R-TE and automatic gearbox. The turbo HiLux (SR5) in the US had a 22R-TE and R151F gearbox with 23 splined input shaft on a gear driven Tcase. Nothing wrong with the motors, just scarce. They have forged low compression pistons, and larger combustion chambers in ...

Ingthorsson,

I know the LJ70 and BJ70 (Bunderas) had coil sprung 8" ring and pinion HiLuz style axles. Does your R150F gearbox have a mid or offset rear output shaft on the Tcase?

I'm curious to learn more about the Bunderas. Would love to find one in LH drive.

Well if you go v6, use the 3.4 liter 5VZ-FE not the 3.0 liter 3VZ-E. The 3.4 liter is a much better engine. However to make it work with your 160 mm (6.5") long input shaft on the R150F gearbox, you'll need to use the 3.0 liter engines bellhousing. All 3.4 liter v6 Toyota truck and 4Runners in the ...

Thanks. That makes more sense. From a conversion standpoint, in an IFS HiLux which is a better swap? The 3L/5L with aftermarket turbo, or a 1KZ-T? In either event the gearbox will be a R151F. I've heard the 1KZ is a much heavier engine, even with the alloy, head whereas the 3L/5L is all cast iron ...

Thanks for the info. Yes the 5L and 5L-E are stroked 3Ls.

Secondly, what's the better route to turbo a 3L or 5L? Aftermarket or use the
turbo 2L parts and possibly a different turbocharger than the CT20?

I get confused between the codes, 2L-T, 2L-TE, and 2L-T II

Simplest thing is install a 1995 22RE from a Hilux or 4Runner. Since you have a LD drive vehice, the wiring harness from a US or Euro donor vehicle is possibly a bolt in swap. Dunno the difference in the wiring loom off the 4Runner and your TLC. Is it a RJ70? Does it have the R150F/R151F gearbox? If ...

Dumbdunce,

What about the next quantum jump, 3L to 5L? Can the 3L and 5L be converted to the 2L roller rockers, and is such a conversion worth it? Yes, more mass but should allow for less friction/wear....

Go to this forum and search under 3RZ-FE. The 2RZ-FE has the same block to bellhousing bolt pattern so you solve fitment issues in the same manner.

Use the W58 bellhousing, flywheel, and clutch assembly found behind a 5M-GE in the Supras.

Alas, Castlemaine say they have no bellhousing to fit a R150F/R151F to a 2JZ-GE.

Another bloke sent me a pic of a Dellow bellhousing for a W58. I'd never seen the inner portion of one before, just the exterior. The casting was real rough and had many occlusions on the machined surface.

I can see why Castlemaine is preferred.

5M-E's power is much the same as the 22R-E, albeit a little gain. However for a six cylinder the swap shouldn't require a body lift as the engine is SOHC.

I think it'd be better for bottom end torque and longevity in a Lux.
