Re: Reccomend a replacement main battery
Bit the bullet and bought the cat 175 battery yesterday. Tried to install it last night but with the normal battery style lugs on top it doesn't quite fit under the bonnet little bit of lugging and a 10mm nylock and should be good. Turns the motor over extremely easily now. Just hope it stands up to ...

Re: Reccomend a replacement main battery
Thanks for the info. There is a cat dealer in unnandera and I'm working in the are so I will have to stop past and have a chat about the model numbers you guys have said and see what they can do. I'm thinking that for the warranty they offer they must have fairly high confidence in their product ...

Re: Reccomend a replacement main battery
Feel free to go through the cat reference guide like i already have and tell me which battery is 1000cca and would suit a 4runner. Maybe I was a bit harsh to start with but it gets old reading a post where Someone says what is best, when everyone has different requirements. Everyone had there own ...

Re: Reccomend a replacement main battery
Excuse my lack of knowledge oh knowledgeable one. And explain why I should listen to your opinion over anyone else's. did look up cat batteries but had no idea which battery was the correct one that was 1000cca nor where to buy it from. Or if it would even fit in the space available in my engine bay ...

Reccomend a replacement main battery
Hi all. Looking for a new main battery that is going to stand up to everything that gets thrown at it. After looking through old pages I'm guessing around 800-900 cca would be sufficient but unsure where to look to get one for a good price or brands that I should look at/steer clear of. It's for a 2 ...

Found the problem. The belt was slightly looser that it should be and was causing the slip while wet

Re: steering trouble
I opened the resivour lid while the engine was running and I could see that there was still fluid flowing. If it was slipping would I still see that happening?

Re: Battery charging
I did mark the side of the injection pump before I removed it but think I may not have it dead on the mark again. Would rotating the pump only make small adjustments or could this be an issue aswell Is there a minimum amperage reccomended for a dual battery system used for internal jump start ...

Re: Battery charging
When I have tried to start the car in the past the battery always drops to under 12v. Could this mean that the battery is not big enough for the strain of starting a diesel or is this normal?
Re: 4runner
Yeah they were rhino racks. They reccomended the 1.8 m length tracks but I got the 2.1m ones so I could have the option of mounting a light bar or a few sportiest on a small rack at the front.
They are meant to sit just on the inside of the small channel on your roof

Re: 4runner
I put roof racks on mine. Drilled and riveted. If you do install them make sure you use the blind rivets that sealed at the bottom or they will leak. I got caught out by this. And plenty or silicone as you can easily rub of any extra after it drys

Re: Cable insulation strippers for larger diameter cable
Tell him to go to an electrical wholesaler they have a small tool(can't remember it's name) which you tighten onto the cable then swing it around the cable and a little blade in the middle slowly cuts through the insulation. at the wholesaler I use they are about $20

Re: Battery charging
Before I removed the timing belt and injection pump it was the dead battery from lack of use so I think the betters may have been on its way out already. But after I put everything back together it just doesn't want to idle so I'm leaning more towards the timing being out and that is also causing ...

Re: Battery charging
I havent run the engine for a while and it has gone dead so I am assuming it has a drain somewhere. Could even be the alarm. But the main reason being that I had to take the fuel pump off to take out a welch plug and now even after it has charged on the battery charger I don't get long of cranking ...

Battery charging
Just wondering if it is a bad idea to try to charge the battery with all the terminals connected to the car still? And could a battery charger be used to aid in jump starting the engine?

Re: 91 4runner loosing water
It's not being lazy. I don't have the time, knowledge or space to take the engine out and put it on a bench and work on in so I am making do with what I have.
Ended up adding some heat to the nut and that free'd it up and have it almost back together now.

Re: UHF Problem
The problem could be as simple as the grounding of the base of the antenna to the bullbar. Undo the ariel and rub the paint off where the base is to allow better contact and this may help
This can happen due to factory powder coat or paint in the mounting plate for the Ariel

Re: 91 4runner loosing water
Was more than likely going to replace the ones on each side. But the one at the back sounds like a bit of a task. Is it worth replacing all the welsh plugs while I have the injection pump off to replace the rusted one?
Also is there any other maintenance that I should think of in that area now that I am going to have parts removed?
