Re: 45/40 series engine replacement
why do you want to replace the 2f? it'd give us a good indication of what your chasing. the 2f is decent enough if healthy. My personal choice would be a fuel injected 4.0 litre falcon straight 6, preferably AU VCT, but anything from EB onwards is practically the same. Nice lazy torque monster ...

Re: 1 HD-T v 1 HD-FT engines
Most of the problems with very early on BEB with the 1HDT were not related to the bearings at all. It was one bad run of rods machined incorrectly. But because they make and machine them in batches of literally hundreds or thousands of number 1 rods, then so on for number 2 etc... They didnt know ...

Re: removing troopy front diff centre
so remove circlip kingpins and the bolts on the swivel hub and it all should pull off????? Most likely it'll take some wiggling, and you might need to push/pull your kingpin bearings into line because the knuckle will usually catch on them, but yeah it will. be careful tho, those assemblies are ...

Thanks for the info mate, that makes more sense than my info that i heard through a mate through a mate at toyota (toyota chinese whispers). Does anyone know if they had the same BEB problems with the 1HDFT as in the 1HDT?? Cheers... same source said that 1hdft's had less BEB warranty work done ...

Hahah. To make your front axle any good, it will need a Nissan centre in it. yes, because winch trucks are so much harder on their front diff than the rock crawling guys... who get away with 80 front diffs My choice would be supercharged or turbo'd 1fz-fe (they love boost, you'll love boost, it's ...

If you get one make sure you take the sump off and change the big end bearings, originally these engines used to spin big end bearings and stuff the crank.... Cheap insurance to change them. Great engines though! had a mate who was a service manager at toyota when these things came out (he left the ...

At the moment, looking at a 15-18 foot trailer boat for around 10 grand. pretty sure the mechanical (outboard) side of things will be ok for me to check, being fairly mechanically minded, but i have NFI what to look for in the hull side of things. most likely will be a fibreglass boat due to ...

Depends how good you are but when I pulled a 3rd member put I just took out king pins and left the hole hub assembly together. It is hard to line up after tho when reinstalling this is my method for getting the front axles/ front diff out. just remember which side what shims go on and it's all good ...

Many petrol motors thrive on lpg... at 1/3 the cost of diesel don't mean to oversimplify your post, as i agree with alot of it - however in sydney gas is .65 and diesel is 1.38 per liter, no where near 1/3 basically 1/2 the price per liter - but then you use alot more gas... alot more. If you have a import the diff gearing may be 3.73. I suggest you start getting some hard facts and measure things to figure out where your gearing difference comes from. Probably the 12HT is either an import or has the diffs changed, what does the compliance plate say for the diffs? K084 ? This. if ...

I was looking at diesel more for economy and reliability. Id probably fit the locker in the rear because the rear end gets heavy once loaded up and the standard lsd isn't all that good to start with, plus steering wont be a strong point with the locker up front. I love my 105 best 4wd by far Jono, the Locker up front is to make the diff carrier stronger ...

Cheap daily drive tyres?
Does anyone know of a source/brand of cheap 7.50 r 16 tires for use through the week? I don't particularly care if they are rough/noisy/on road/offroad/fast wearing tread, because they are basically to keep the diffs off the ground on my troopy, and ensure i can drive it to work when the mood takes ...
Re: td5 or v8
The TD5's had a pretty good rep for reliability, but we're starting to see a fair few come through work now they are hitting over 200 000 k's. best case for heads, worst case for whole engines. now we don't normally see many older cars in our workshop, but we've done 9 td5 engine swaps in the last ...
