I think Judge it right, its probably Jammed. I had a VL turbo with the MX7 speed that jammed in 5th and reverse at once and I made the mistake of ripping it out and broke the end off the selector fork. It was cast alloy and I replaced all the selectors with nismo steel. I never had the same problem ...

One of the main things to look for is rust in the roof just above the gutters, around the rear door jams, seems on the inside of the doors, and the rearside of each rear wheel arch. I would think it unlikely the pump would need a rebuild from the problem you have described but I would have the injectors tested and check the ends before putting it back together

My mate had diesel with an auto (not sure if they are the same as the petrol) and it was chewing a bucketload of fuel. This was after he spent 2k on a rebuilt. He took it to another auto place who discovered a block pipe in the auto. He had that replaced for about 400 and the fuel economy improved ...

I am also having issues with my tank with ventialation, I am pulling my tank out in the next few weeks to try and sort it out, I will keep you posted on what I find
