Re: Broken diff repairable?

Thanks guys. Getting some shocks tomorrow as shocks had nothing left. Could have been the cause of the crack. They totally lost it after the incident.

Re: Broken diff repairable?

Btw it's an 89 GQ wagon. My mechanic who has worked on Patrols for years says he has never seen anything like this. In his estimation I should replace it as soon as possible. However I have also heard that if it is properly welded, it can last the life of the vehicle.

Broken diff repairable?

Hi guys. I had some cracks on my front diff housing a couple months ago. I haven't four wheeled in a while so I had plans to weld up the cracks recently. Anyway, I went on off road recently (not bad enough to need four wheel drive). By the time I reached my destination, I came out and saw the front ...

Yes, I have since learnt that they can fit the Patrol. They are not as heavy duty as the genuine Patrol ones though.

Braking problem

Hi fellows. Since recently, i noticed that when i press on the brakes, when coming to a stop, sometimes the vehicle runs on a couple feet before stopping. It doesnt happen everytime, but now and then. I also hear an inconsistent knocking sound coming from somewhere underneath the car. It happens ...

Gq swaying

Hi fellows, my gq seems to have a slight swaying when on the highway, especially if it windy. Seems to have gotten a bit worse the other day after carrying a full compliment of passengers. I am also feeling the bumps on the road a bit more. I know i am in need of some rear link bushings, but could ...

Re: dana 60s into gq patrol

Might be an option with BIG tyres but DANA 60s are land anchors!! There are a couple of winch trucks that run them (solid) but they arent as worried about land anchors as much as crawler!. Would not be a cheap option either!! I would go a GU front with heat treated cvs for a GQ. Unless tuff truck ...

Re: GU/GQ Gearbox Housings - Same or Different?

Bad luck story...Changed the gearbox oil in my low km MY05 TD42 the other day and when I did the oil filler plug up, the gearbox housing cracked off the side of the filler plug boss. To say I was and am pissed off about it is an understatement and before anybody flames me for over tightening the ...

Re: Driver's Seat

That inside rear seat bracket. Has a habit of breaking, by the captive nut being pushed out or pulled out. I replaced one and then just welded them up. Also that braket bolts on. Need to lift the carpet to get it out. The floor where the rear one bolts is totally worn out (or rusted) and that ...

Re: Driver's Seat

Got a good look over the weekend, the front leg is was welded to the seat itself and bolts into the floor. Seems the weld broke and thats what is giving problems. Used a board to kind of hold it in position, but will have it welded soon.

There is a bracket welded to the back side of main support bracket that is bolted to the floor. Best bet is to take it out and have a look, compare it to the passenger side one. Thanks Cliff, i will have a look at this. I noticed also that the seat cant move back and forth as before. I will ...

Re: Converting 4 speed to 5

I have a couple of 5 speeds here not doing anything, but they are really heavy and I reckon the freight would be pricey what about civilian bus gearbox availability locally? Its the same box mostly. This should give you the main parts (heavy parts) and then all you need for the Patrol is the ...

Re: Converting 4 speed to 5

You would need a new layshaft and a new output shaft, both gears for 5th, extension housing and other items such as bearings and circlips etc to convert the 4 to a 5. Much easier to buy a complete 5 speed. Thanks, it would be much easier to buy a five speed box normally, but Patrols with 5 speed ...

Re: Converting 4 speed to 5

Big red, your wagon really looks good. over this side of the world, some of the earlier gqs came with 4 speed. In the manual, they use the same parts except for the 5 speed gears.

Converting 4 speed to 5

Hi fellows, i have a 4 speed box behind my td42. I am wondering if its possible to convert it to 5 speed by adding the gears and additional parts, The manual has the boxes as basically similar except than one has 5 speed and one has one less gear. Anybody ever done this, or think it is possible?

Superwhite vs Clear

I read a lot of information on the internet re blue bulbs, however I couldnt go past the superwhite look that these bulbs give off. I used to have in the clear 90/100. but they gave off a dull yellow like foglights. I figured that I needed a set of relays, but I came upon superwhite bulbs , which i ...

Re: Hella Headlights on high beam

Well so far the Hellas are not bad, but i am thinking of removing the shield inside the headlight as it does take away some of the lumens. The headlight gives a projector like precise beam on high, which is good on a straight road, but on a country road with plenty corners it does have its weakness ...

Re: Hella Headlights on high beam

Normally the Hellas have a diamond shape in the middle for high beam. Set up correctly this is a good beam pattern. All globes should be the same dimensionally so brand doesnt matter (shouldnt) or the focus will be out. Remeasure the voltage with your replacement loom. Should be close to alternator ...

Re: Hella Headlights on high beam

I dont think its the Hella, as I recently checked and the voltage reaching the lights was 12.5. A mechanic recently asked how the light seemed so dull, He couldnt believe that they were 90/100 bulbs. They did remind me of the sealed beam that i had some years ago. Id say your wiring is too small ...

Hella Headlights on high beam

Hi fellows, i bought a pair of Hella headlamps last week to replace the LHD headlights that i had. The coverage on low beam is good, but on high beam, the distance is very good, but there is a huge dark patch in front of the vehicle. I made some adjustments as the beams were a bit too close, but ...
