As someone said, all you're doing is fooling the ECU into over-fuelling above a certain engine load. You can trick it any number of ways for less - adding a resistance to or across the air or coolant temperature sensor will make it enrichen the mixture, that's how those "magic" cheap "tuning boxes ...

Fridgefreezer , how do you go with the Megasquirt in low ratio first just trickling/idling , and hitting the brakes. Apparently surge is common with MAF only units in this situation, and I have seen it with Motec on a club members car. The guy was driven mad by the car speeding up at obstacles. I ...

Forgot about the Aussie difference - and yes the early ones have the nasty hose barb connectors. Still not convinced you need to upgrade them on a stock engine and MAF sensed system, I have been running early 3.5 injectors on the 3.9 for ages with no trouble, although admittedly I have a proper* ECU ...

The AFMs were indeed made for lots of other vehicles, but they are a bit different. Jaguar ones may work (the AFMs and ECUS are interoperable) but it's not as simple as all that. Many people swap in Lucas/Bosch ECU's and AFMs and the vehicle will run, start, drive, etc. OK, being a MAF system they ...

Beg to differ - the injectors are the same from 3.5 to 4.6. Also one of the few advantages of Rover's mass-airflow system is that it will adjust to the larger engine size without too much drama. If it has Lambda sensors you're even better off as it will "learn" and hopefully sort itself out. Worth ...

You can "recondition" the Lucarse AFM's by popping the top and gently bending the wipers in a bit on the carbon tracks (you'll see what I mean when you're in there). Over the years the wiper wears a groove in the carbon, eventually it goes right through. If you bend the arm so it's wiping a fresh ...

Go to the scrapyard and search out a newer truck or car with at least the same power output as your vehicle, and have the filter + housing off of that. That way you can gain a nice big filter and for those of us who started with oil baths, we can actually get a bit of decent filtration. My current ...

There's always the LR genuine parts swirlpot (AKA "Sedimentor") http://www.juracid.co.uk/gallery/ms/swirlpot.jpg Not as sexy as most but it does the job. It's advisable but not essential to put a slight restriction in the swirl pot return line (biro pen cap is a good one I've heard) to keep a little ...

Philip A: I don't want to start an argument but I have to say you're just plain wrong about several important things regarding MegaSquirt. " Maybe what is wrong with his car is a combination of worn out injectors, worn out sensors, worn out AFM. " If the injectors are worn / down on flow it doesn't ...

If it's just running a bit too rich there are some verys imple remedies, b*ll*cks to paying out for a new AFM, as others have said you can ditch it and build a MegaSquirt for that kinda money. Things that can make it run rich: - AFM thinks too much air is getting in, you might be able to sort this ...

Try ringing RPi , Lund Engines , or Real Steel , they all know their stuff and are usually happy to give out advice. If your engine has done 260k a simple rebuild with new cam, lifters and (duplex if possible) timing chain should see it much better anyway, you can stick a stock 3.9 cam in at the ...

I have chatted with a guy who owns an AgRover (he's a farmer, natch) from what I gather it was a genuine Land Rover conversion for farmers to take advantage of the fact it was an "agricultural vehicle" for tax purposes. In the UK that means they run it on tax-free diesel and presumably can claim ...

You could try an Aldon Ignitor, very neat module costs about £100 UKP. Lumenition kits are still available, http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk sell them but there must be somewhere cheaper than them - there usually is. The 4.6 blocks have added strength - cross-bolted mains, larger journal crank. Converting a 3.5 to 4.6 would end up with a weaker engine. See http://www.v8engines.com for the tech specs of the various blocks & what combinations can be done.

I just wandered round the scrapyard till I found an alt that mounted roughly right and had decent output - got a 45/90A (45A at idle, 90A at speed) off a ford for £15, the equivalent LR unit is about £100.
