brakes overhaul

Anyone got any tips for replacing the discs and caliper kits on a GU. I have worked on brakes before motorbikes etc. I know the bleed from furthest to closest to master cyl. I thought i'd read somewhere about blocking the hoses at each caliper before taking them off, is this a good idea ( i think so ...

as Gute said they are under the cap thing - about 40 mm square with 4 bolt holes in and a big hole in middle. these are quite a fine tolerance on this setting (thats why you can get all different thicknesses of shims ) . if your front end is "loose" then I'd be looking at other things first. If you ...

ZD30 fanbelt tensioners

Just had mine replaced today $350 - asked in spares for bulk-buy price $250. just testing the waters to see if any one is interested and if so, has anyone got ideas on how to organise payment. Would have to pay up front and then wait for tensioners to come in - I'm willing to organise but the money ...

you still have to grind to fit the 43%, not sure if its as much as 85%. not hard to do though. For what its worth if you're not absolutely confident and got the correct tools THEN GET SOMEBODY WHO DOES THEM, TO FIT. Heaps of heavy hard work. This is from a part time back yard, hack mechanic point of ...

wait for 2.8 owners responses cos bigger tyres may really slow you and cause more frustration. 2.8 also have smaller drivetrains so just wait a bit b4 you fit that 6.0 lt ( be fun though)

have a look at the back axle in GQ or GU and you'll understand em heaps.
Basically there are 5 links ( arms) to the chassis from the axle instead of the usual 3 as standard. Offers more chance to flex but some say less stability on road.

Personally would not do it to any car. these mounts are only designed for the wheel and the extra weight let alone the distance it would hang out from wheel would damage the whole shebang. Havn't you seen how those racks wobble when loaded? mount one on tow bar or go roof rack.

GU 3 lt diesel injector servicing

Just wondering what the advised period of getting them looked and "cleaned" or whatever they do - is? I've heard that 100k used to be the recomended period for diesels in the past.

got spotties and winch blocking flow to Rad??? Dont forget there are four radiators of one sort or another in there - one behind the other, I've had a similar thing happen once in 110,000 km on a hot day but never again.also sand driving can be relatively slow ( no air flow ) but hard work for motor.

gotta add that I was a bit worried about putting extra strain on front axle and cv's etc with 85% and big wheels, the further you go in each direction the more pressure, not that i've heard of any probs, I just didnt wanna increase the chances of being the first.

Just to clear things up a bit. I have the ZD30 with 4 sp Auto and its got 4.3 diffs as standard. I went the 43% gears so that I dont have to stop and change up to high range at too low a speed. I always felt low range wasnt quite low enough. Diesels have have slightly better natural engine braking ...
