External wastegate is supposed to be mounted about 90 degrees from the main flow of exhaust gasses (thats from Corky Bell's book). If that EGR plug is on the end of the log style factory manifold, then mounting the wastegate there might make it fairly inefficient. My 2c. actually he says that 90 ...

with a core of that length aren't you likely to get good cooling at one end then as the water heats up as it moves through end up with bugger all cooling at the other end ?

i've got a surf with I assume the same gear as you. When I installed my pyro the egr pipe ummm fell off and I made a plate that covered the egr hole in the exhaust manifold. Drilled and tapped the same plate for the pyro probe and all is good.
