That's interesting Maggot. What is the height difference between poly-airs up and down? Do the 38's rub at all, either up or down? With the poly-airs down, I guess the springs are just 2" higher. And, have you extended the bump stops at all?

More info!! :D

 They're currently 265/75R16 on the truck. Couldn't find any pics of my truck stuck, plently of my mates' lux and patrol! :D The terrain is usually rocky or heavily rutted. I've been stuck enough times to know that I need more clearence. Not so much under the diffs, I've nearly got as much ...

Ok. HiJack thinks 2 inches would do it too. What I think I will do is: 1. cut the guards nice and big so there is plenty of room. 2. fit the tires and articulate the truck until the they rub to get my measurement. 3. Extend the bump stops so the tires just clear the body. 4. Go up in lift 2x the ...

Poly-ethyl-ethyl-ketone or PEEK We were going to use it to replace a steel centre gear in a planetary gearset, that's how strong the stuff is. Unfortunately, it wasn't strong enough  It was over $300 for a 35 x 150mm rod of it  its much cheaper in pellet form though for doing ...

Its a good lookin rig HighJack has there Micka. I would probably prefer to cut more guard and have less lift. I'll PM and get some more details from him. Slunnie, I really like the ride my Rangie has now and would be very disappointed if some mob just threw in stiffer springs. Something to check up ...

WTD: Spring lift required 2 fit 37's with LRA 2.5" body

I'm doing some research into what would be required to fit 37's under my 4dr Rangie. As stated, I currently have the LRA 2.5" body lift fitted (which is an excellent product for those interested). The rest is standard suspension. LRA reckon that a 36" will fit with this body lift alone and some very ...

Thanks Sic Lux, glad to hear your opinion. I dont really like the idea of rendering a tyre useless just for a simple puncture or something. Then you've got one new tyre and three half worn, which is no good to nobody. Plus it's false economy, I could buy a brand new set of roof racks (rola) for the ...

Yes thankyou Bazzle. :finger: :D I plan to be as far away from my garage as I can. My point was that I can't leave it on there, not that I have to. As the Rangie stands now, it will normally just fit under most carparks. Not all, I find out, I even had an oopsie on my own garage door that left my ...

Full time 4WD is great for not having to jump out into the mud to lock hubs when you're already stuck. But in this case, isn't so handy. If I could mount the tyre on the bonnet, that would be cool. But, alas, the bonnet probably wont hold it, and I probably wont be able to see over it. I love being ...

Of course, if I put anything on the roof (even a pack of cigarettes), it will no longer fit in my garage or under the carpark roof. :x

I've been looking at the Rola roof rack GLO35, these seem to have the best load rating.

Yeah, Rangies are full time 4WD so it has to be the same. I had a bit of a sleep on it last night I was thinking that a roof rack may be the way to go on this one. But now that you mention it, roof bars might be even better/neater. Anybody know of a good set that would be suitable? (maybe I should ...

That's a good point, but there simply isn't enough room in the back for the mattress AND the tyre regardless of the configuration. Especially when we add a 120L ice box, the water bottle and the tucker box.

Tyre Goo and Tyre Repair

Hi Guys, Have a question regarding tyre goo (the tyre repair (seal+infate) in a can). I'm soon going on a trek around North NSW and South QLD in my 1988 Range Rover. To cut a long story short, I have oversize tyres on it where the spare normally floats around in the back, no worries. But for the ...

Something like this might work for high res:

http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Default.aspx?CatID=1209

just plug a pencil camera composite video out into the input of this device. I don't see why it wouldn't work. I'm sure this thing could run off 12v if properly transformed.

I don't really like the idea of blocking the rear vision. But considered it a necessary evil in order to get the wheel out of the way, if I put it on the back. The setup on the back of the red jeep is exactly what I was thinking. Just on the weekend we camped Saturday night in the back, and really ...

I've decided. I'll go with the false floor in the back. Building a wheel carrier also means building a new bumper as well, and that's not quite the scale of job I had in mind (coupled with the carrier). The false floor keeps everything nice and low, I can still see out my rear window, it doesn't ...

Yep, all sounds about right. I've got a tired old 3.5 in my '88 Rangie. I travel to and from Sydney and Newcastle regularly. It will use about a 1/3 of a tank on average to do it one way which is about 150 k's. 1/2 tank if I'm laffy (daffy) on the throttle or about a 1/4 if I'm nice and steady ...

Yeah, a false floor is a top idea. The rangie, like most fourby's, is nice and tall in the cargo area so there would be enough height for a tyre and my (our) horizontal frame. Two things though, being higher up in the cargo area means less space for manouvering, and I've got a 106L ice box that when ...

Upright is how the standard Rangie one goes. My oversize tyre doesn't fit in the spot anymore because of the reel for the rear seat seatbelt. If I put it in there anyway, and just had it hanging out (resting on the reel instead of under it) it would kill a fair bit of space in the back still ...

there's nothing actually wrong with a swing-away. They work perfectly. another point to raise is full-time 4WDs. These bad-boys don't have any hubs to lock in or out.
