Re: Worn carby needles with LPG

Ive got a 76 Rangie on dual fuel. But runs rich on fuel. It appears the carby needles are worn. has anyone had success with replacing just the needles and not the jets (as I suspect they are also worn)?
Cheers Euan

I've always been confused by this issue.

The locknuts I used are called "Barri Nut".

They are keyed, and you need the included socket thingy to tighten.

Re: Headlight loom upgrade for cruiser, help

1) When I select HI low beam stays lit - this will lead to buld burnout I guess due to heat.

Is this supposed to happen? It does in my Rangie

I am pretty sure that's wrong, even in a rangie. It's certainly not right for 99% of vehicles - it should be high beam OR low beam, not both. Especially ...

IMO, headlight "upgrade" looms are a waste of time and money (i've fitted four).

IMO, headlight loom upgrade is fantastic. I made my own and it dramatically increased light output.

The best band for your buck lighting mods IMO are:

- Upgrade your stock H4's to "Arctic Blue", or a "whiter" type ...

My spacers leaked a little till eventually I had to pull the thing apart (burnt exhaust valve) about 5 years ago.

Put it back together with new gaskets and gasket goo.
Never leaked since!

(had to fabricate spacer to manifold gasket - wasn't going to use a 3.5 valley gasket)

Yes it can be done.

Have to remove the crossmember. Mine needed a bit of persuasion.

The whole unit is very gearbox end heavy.
I attached a D shackle to the bracket on the RHS of the transfer case.
Lifted from 2 engine lifting brackets and this gearbox lifting point.

There is a hook on the LHS ...

P76 (and rover) pistons are recessed.
Not sure why, maybe for piston/valve clearance.

The amount of recess determines the compression ratio.

If flat top pistons are used, then the compression ratio is increased.
This will also reduce valve to piston clearance.

Increasing the compression ratio ...

However, I have a P76 workshop manual.
I'll scan the fuel system pages for you.

Hopefully I can post a pdf.

P76 has the engine # at the back of the block near the left hand head.

Im a sparky and do a fair bit of solderng and I find even the dirtiest of copper is easily soldered with the correct ammount of heat.

I'd disagree with this statement.
To get a "heat bridge", the wire must be clean to enable it flow throughout the cable strands.
Solder will not stick to oxidised ...

Both the fuel and temp gauges are supplied from a voltage regulator.
It's the metal can thing located in the instrument panel.

Mine displayed similar symptons a while ago, but it ended up being a fuse.
Have you got reversing lights?

I think these are the spacers I have (however they are not wedge shaped. they have parallel flats).

Do you want straight gas or efi?

If it's straight gas, then the efi manifold/injectors/fuel rail/pressure reg etc etc is wasted money.
Bolt on a throttlebody, or even use the standard p76 carby.
It's only an air flow controlling device.

If it's efi you want then what have bought is good ...

there were some Wedges or spacers available once, cost a motza however.
They were a lot of bother, always leaking, vaccum leaks.
They don't leak if fitted correctly (properly sealed).

As far as wiring goes get a relay, wire it to the batt if you want it to cool the car after you've taken the keys out (remember this way the fan will run until it's cool, very annoying at 1am!!!)

Having the fans on while the engine is not running does stuff all.
