Re: Bigger tyres on Stock Jimny

I've just put 215 BFG AT's on my new Jimny.

On fast bumpy roads the tyres rubbed the guards a bit. I've since had it lifted.

From your build thread over on AZ, am I correct in thinking that your wheels put the tyres a bit further out to the side than they would be on the stock rims? I'm hoping ...

As your Jimny uses an electronic speedo, you can use a Jaycar kit to recalibrate it.

However, you'll probably find your speedo currently reads about 5% slow, so with the 215's it will likely be spot on, so there's no real need to recalibrate.

Steve.

ahh that's quite reasonable then. Is it possible to have the speedo recalibrated to take that into account, or is that a monstrously expensive thing?

definitely... wouldnt go any larger though.

Also - look at the BFG KM2 - they are about the most aggressive tyre you can get in 215/75r15 and are a great pattern.

much appreciated. To be honest the vehicle is going to spend most of its time on the road, the factory tyres just look a bit ...

Bigger tyres on Stock Jimny

Hi All,

I'm looking at a 2010 Jimny, and the factory tyre spec is for 205/70R15.

Does anyone know if I can fit something like a BFGoodrich Allterrain 215/75R15 on the factory rims and without doing any modifications?

thanks,

Jimny suddenly loses power

Hi Folks,

Just wondering if anyone knows what this might be...

89 manual Jimny with about 95000km on it.

Every now and then it'll lose power suddenly, to the degree that you get jerked forward a couple of inches. It's happened in suburban driving at 60kmh, and also going downhill on a highway at ...

Hey all,

Well today after calling two places roughly the same distance from home as ARB, I was quoted $220 per tyre, and $50 per wheel fitted and balanced for the same 31" BF Goodrich All Terrains.

Is that sounding better? $1350 for all 5.

Thanks

Hey Everyone,

Fuster, that price of $310 is for the tyre and the wheel - white steel things. The wheels seem to be around $50-60 each.

So it was about $250-260 for each tyre. Does that still sound high?

Cheers

Tyre Advice?

Hi Folks,

I'm looking for 31" tyres to go on my jimny. They'll do the vast majority of their driving onroad, so longevity on bitumen is really important.

I've looked at BF Goodrich All Terrains, and been quoted $310 each by ARB on rims, installed, balanced etc.

Does that sound any good?

About to buy a Jimny - Any advice?

Hi All,

I've got the option to pick up a manual 98 jimny with 80,000 kms on it for $9000 with a 12 month warranty. The body will need a little detailing for scratches, and some small dings, but inside it's pretty nice.

Anyone think that's a good/bad deal? I'm going to want to upgrade the ...

Which Vitara for Hilux Axle Swap?

Hi All,

I'm back to contemplating buying a 4 door Vitara and having Overkill do a hilux axle swap on it, and was just wondering weather I'd be better off going for the 4 cylinder or the V6. It's going to have to be a daily city commute vehicle, so I'll probably be looking at an auto model.

86 4Runner Dual Fuel

Hi All,

I'm going to look at a 1986 4Runner on the weekend that's got a dual fuel setup. It's an auto transmission (I'll be doing a lot of inner city driving) and the LPG tank is mounted in the cargo space at the back. Is this a "normal" thing to do? It sortof strikes me as a tad unsafe ...

MWB: BJ-73 or BJ-74

Hi All,

Bizarre, after fruitless searching a pair of local factory turbo MWBs come up on the same weekend.

Both are white 1986 models (the colour I'm after).

One is a BJ-73, the body is in reasonable condition, little bit of rust in the windscreen surrounds. They've recently replaced the ...

Hi All,

Hearing about the 14-BT - how similar is that to the 13-BT, and do you have any issues with power electrical systems (12/24v), or diesel sulphur levels etc?

These have both been suggested to me as worry items with import MWBs with the japanese spec 13-BT :?

Thanks

hunting an MWB - diesel, petrol, turbo or no

Hi All,

My frustrating search for an MWB cruiser is still going on.

Ideally I want the BJ-73 that came with the factory turbo (13-BT) but I can't seem to find one that isn't a Japanese 2nd hand import.

I've driven the non-turbo 3B engine one, but it was really pokey going uphill. I drove an ...

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the reply.

It's a 1985 BJ-73. the vehicle is $7900 already, if I'm looking at upto $3000 in repairs, plus it needs new rear tyres - perhaps im better off waiting to look for a newer one with the factory turbo engine?

Decisions, decisions.
