Re: Help .... Wheel Bearings, 1989 GQ 4.2

This is a bit off topic, but in the last 12 months there's been quite a few threads on here about GU owners having wheel bearings coming loose. If the GU setup "can't" come loose, then what going on here? The bearings must be collapsing? Mine came loose after i did the GU wheel bearing locking ...

How much water will it take to do damage? As small as a few millilitres getting into the cylinder? Or a bit more, like a couple of shot glasses worth? Mine did the same thing. Didn't stall though, it just wouldn't rev. Will have to get a comp test done now. Although, it is running as good as always ...

Thanks for the heads up. About how far did you have to move the battery tray? I don't really want to mess around with moving the washer bottle and tray. If it's not much, i'll just "massage" the tray. I've got a custom snorkel aswell so it's going to be a PITA to get everything to line up anyway.

For GQ/GU, I'd probably say suspension bushes - Radius arm bushes, rear control arm bushes, etc.. Maybe the original rubber body mounts? I'll be needing to get all these pretty soon. The cupholders that go in the centre console and the bonnet adjusters are always on ebay. Price wise, it would be ...

Sorry for a bit of a dig. I've got the exact same problem. Replaced the front panhard bushes for genuine Nissan and has made a big difference. Still wobbles a little though. The RTC steering dampner seems fine. I'm thinking either wheel bearings or steering box. Bearings could probably do with a bit ...

I have this same problem too. GQ LWB TD42. Problem is, i've got new rotors and pads front and rear.

I have a feeling it is related to the patrol death wobble/shimmy problem because the steering wheel only wobbles under braking at the same speed as the shimmy - about 60 - 70km/h.
