Re: IS there any after market suspension you'd not recommend

Get Lovell's. 4 coils, 4 gas shocks cost me a little over $700 online (90 series prado, gq probably a bit more). Australian made coils (don't know about shocks) with a 5 year warranty. I've had them for three years and can't fault them. Correction_ 3 year 70000k warranty. May have been more when I ...

Re: Why did nissan stop making the 4.2td.

An engine made from two RD28s would be like having two buckets o' shite compared to one and it would still struggle to match a tb48 in terms of power, reliability and economy. Although it would sound tough with a decent exhaust.

There's a couple of reports of the beaudesert dump pipe cracking on the pradopoint forum. These reports are a couple of years old, not sure if the problem has been rectified. Ecu-tek (spelling) also make a full system for the 1kz but it is $$$$.

Re: Slack in timing belt?

Mate if the sound is a clack, clack, clack type sound that occurs randomly on cold start ups and you have a 1kz I would say don't worry about it. From what I have researched, plenty of 1kzs make it, including mine, and it's normal. It's gone after a minute or so and has never caused a problem. No ...

Placebo effect if you ask me. I did it for about two months until my injector pump shat itself- won't ever do it again.

Everyone forgets resale value. Diesels generally hold their value better than petrols. Although, if you are like me and usually stick with a vehicle until it is virtually worthless then resale isn't a factor.

Those alloy plugs burr very easily especially the ones that take allen keys to remove. I did it to nearly every plug under my prado when I first got it  In most cases I have taken to them with a file and got a smaller spanner over them or got out the dremel and given them new edges. In extreme ...

Re: Would U buy a 1KZ with High Kays?!?

I've got a 90 series prado with the 1kzte with 200,000ks. I recently had to get the injector pump reconditioned so just bought a brand newie $2700 from Toyota as the price differences was only a few hundred. The likey cause of the punp going was contaminated fuel. The 1kz is very quick to crack it's ...

Mate, take it to Diesel Injection Technology on Princess Street. I think the owner's name is Graham- great bloke. They are very thorough and professional and will spend the time discussing any issues with you. They persisted to find the problems with my Toyota and it now starts and runs perfectly.

But the other thing is that on these rough start ups I'm barely getting any smoke. Surely if the injectors have been leaking for 12+ hours you would get an excessive amount of smoke on start up?

Re: 1kz-te starting issue

If the injectors are leaking, then they will run like shit until they get hot and seal back up properly- Dads 2000 prado does this because one injector doesnt quite 100% seal until its up to engine temps- first 20 seconds or so. Yeah, I thought the same thing. But old mate seems to think that it ...

1kz-te starting issue

G'day Fellas, Over the last month or so the Prado has become very difficult to start in the morning. If the engine is dead cold ts may take a few attempts to get it started. If it is warm there are no issues whatsoever. After being left overnight I will wait until about five seconds after the glow ...

found water in diesel

My 95 prado has had starting issues for the last few weeks so in an attempt to solve the problem I replaced the fuel filter today. For the first time I found the water trap full of, you guessed it, water. I emptied it out and replaced the filter. I know the contaminated fuel is in my sub tank and I ...

I know the Pathfinders V6s of that era are pretty heavy on the juice- the challengers are not a great deal better- but I'm pretty sure they are at least a couple of litres better per hundred ks. Apart from that I think they are pretty similar vehicles.

The finer filter has an inner and outer section of foam (together both sections of foam are around 30-40mm thick). I usually have a close look at the condition of the filter before cleaning and re-oiling (the oil is similar in consistency to honey and sticky as). I have always found the inner layer ...
