My Maverick recently passed with 33x12.5x15's. He picked on other stupid stuff though, so certainly not a dodgy job.

They were covered by the flares (garden edging) though.

Re: Mods to my 3lt GU

Hi

I am looking at doing some mods to my GU. It is a 2002 3lt turbo running an Auto gear box. I plan on the following and would like to know what problems I may encounter.
4" lift
33" or 35" tyres (will there be a problem with the auto if I run 35")

Any info would be great.

The 4" lift may ...

Maybe it still has too much grease in it. Try using it a few times and see if it becomes easier as the grease gets worked out of the gears.

Also what grease did you use? If you stuffed it full of thick wheel bearing grease or similar that may be part of the issue.

The only GU's worth owning are the 4.2 turbo diesel - these start at around $27000 for something under 300,000km. You'd be crazy to buy a 3.0 grenade motor and the petrols are so thirsty its crazy.

There is $1600 of Superior Engineering chromoly and mecavel links and rods under this, not to mention ...

If the freespool is starting to sieze its probably due to water ingress and the sliding ring is rusted in place. Pull the gearbox off and strip it down to check.

If you have damaged the handle by trying to force it a new one is about $150!

I have more than enough standard suspension I could put in it ;)

302,000 km's

body in good condition, no rust (other than rear window frames) and only very minimal 4wding scars

Anyone heard much about the ebay cheapies? 250amp for under $700, 200amp for under $400.

They're just chinese jobbies, but are they good enough for occasional home use?

ARB sell the spacer for the back door for about $50.

Kaymar robbers want about $100 for it (same thing but has an extra small loop on it for fitting one of their equally overpriced rear worklights)

Dunno if they help clear the tail light, but they lift it up and out a bit.

I've seen Warn 9.5XP's used in comps, faster under load than a standard hi-mount, not as fast without load though. By the time you've bought one of those you're not far off a hi-mount though.
